From last night:

That was that for South Carolina businessman and primary candidate Mark Lynch. That's the bad news. He's out, along with 3 other serious candidates - no others got even 1% of the ~ 335,000 votes cast in yesterday's SC Special GOP Primary election.

335,000 out of a State with a population of 5.6 million, or 6% might seem a poor turnout. The idea is for this to have been an election by the GOP voters, so of a smaller set. However, most people don't understand how important this one is - there are only 100 Senators, and the winner here is very likely to be one of them, and it's yet another Tuesday to go find the polling place. We'll note how many come out in 2 more weeks and compare.

Could a good number of D's have come out? Only a signed attestation that one was not a Democrat who'd voted in the Primary already was holding anyone back, and people will lie. What would be the point though? How would one sabotage this, by voting for Darline or against Darline. Who would one vote for to be against her or to screw the results?

The first time around, before Lindsey died:

Peak Stupidity first endorsed Mark Lynch due to his having come in 2nd behind Lindsey Grahmnesty (we can't help it) the first time around. I guess that means nothing, the more I thought about it. Other possible candidates would have refrained from wasting their donors' money against a near sure thing. They've got thousands of signs to pay for every 2 years. Two in the results above (and that debate) are active US Congressmen and one (Mark Sanford) is a former Rep. Mark Lynch, OTOH, has never been in office. Same with Darline, come to think of it, but... Trump.

These results are a disappointment for me, as last week (see our post), we saw from a small debate that Mr. Lynch was by far the only non-talking-points spouting standard politician. Alas, that's not what the people wanted. More likely too, they didn't watch any of that but just picked the guy they'd heard of most.

The good news is that there will be a run-off. Darline Graham got a fairly close plurality but not a majority. I like the system South Carolina has with the run-offs for any results with no candidate getting a majority of votes.

The bad news again is that the runner-up who will face her in 2 weeks is the worst of the other four. Earlier today, I spent 20 minutes checking out US SC-5th District Congressman Ralph Norman's voting record. It's haphazard and meaningless. He stands for nothing, as far as I see. He resembles, well, I might as well paste n a list of 75 other Senators that he resembles.

We don't care so much now. I still hope Ralph Norman beats Darline Graham in 2 weeks (minus a day), even if it's just for the result that Trump doesn't get what he wants. What he wants is stupid for South Carolina. Still the little bit left of good news is that, if 2/3 of the voters voted against Darline, wouldn't it be close to that with the one guy against her? That'd be an interesting question to ponder, but maybe I should ponder it 2 weeks from now.)

PS: I wonder how many sick days from her SC government jobs Darline Graham has used up so far in the campaign.

PPS: Spellcheck doesn't like "Darline". I saw your comment, Mr. Smith, and I also wrote before (somewhere, maybe not here) that Lindsey taught her to spell her name that way after it had been "Darlene". Who knows why?

PS: Oh, I see I should have corrected a couple of typos from Nov of '20.

Anyway, I did enjoy the video of the many MOST IMPORTANT ELECTIONS EVAH! Nixon was in there (past his own time), but there was one guy I didn't recognize. I noticed that people were slightly more honest and/or hedging in the past - "One of the most ..." I watched it earlier this morning, so I already can't remember who, but one scene had someone telling the candidate from behind him to hedge a little bit.

I wrote that because I really would hate to see yet another worthless Senator a couple of terms later - if we still have such a thing - about whom people go "How did she get there?!" We will know how.

Back to the video, going back to radio days (there was TV, but I guess no one has a recording of it) one guy had said "since Roosevelt" or something. That sounds much less full of hype and more thoughtful. Were I to talk about one of the most important Presidential elections in hindsight - much easier! - I would say Goldwater v Johnson. It went the wrong way, and we are all paying for that.

That all said, it's a shame that the Administrator of the Executive Branch has this much power, such that those elections can be considered so important. I don't think that was to be the way, as thought up in 1789. Congress and voters have let it become this way. Constitutional Amendments along the way have made it worse - looking at you, XVII and XVI.

PS: Adam, I meant to post about as many of those types of songs as I can come up with - there's a word for them that I can't look up so easy - ones with a lot of fast talking/singing, such as REM "It's the End of the World..." and Billy Joel's "We Didn't Start the Fire", and oldie called "Life is a Rock. That Bob Dylan one would be included. I did have a parody with my own lyrics during the '20 (MOST IMPORTANT) election. I'll just paste them in from:

"Joe Biden's subterranean homesick blues and the godless tornadoes"

Joey's in the basement,
'ministrin' the government.
Hunter's on the pavement,
mixin' up the "medicine".
He sometimes wears a trench coat,
underneath clothes off,
wants to get paid off
from his pal Testicov.

Look out, kids,
no matter what they did.
Joe's wearing pantyhose,
hopped up on No-doze.
Not even he knows
what fungus grows on his big toes.
Watch out for the bros
and all their skanky ho's.
You don't need a weather man
to know just whom Kamela blows.

Yes, I'm proud of that!
