I thank Unz Review commenter Blanc de Chine for embedding the hilarious video that we present below.
Peak Stupidity has made light yet in all seriousness about the stupidity of Americans being told to pronounce foreign place names THEIR way, even though it's not vice versa. Then somewhere we've mentioned the politically correct newscasters and such who speak perfect English until they get to the foreign place names, at which point they proceed to go all out with their extreme Spanish, and maybe occasionally Chinese or Swahili or Bush-man clicking.* Spanish is ubiquitous and easier, so that's usually the case, and "Nicaragua" is the best example.
Therefore, this 1990 skit I'd never seen before was so fun, as it confirmed and affirmed this particular pet peeve.. This skit - with Phil Hartman, Jan Hooks, Mike Myers, Rob Schneider, Dana Carvey, and guest host Jimmy Smits (and was that the actual sports guy Bob Costas?), is now from 36 years back. I've got two points:
1) As "Blanc de Chine" noted, this shows the that particular politically correct habit of newspeople goes back that far, or they wouldn't have been making fun of it.
2) You could still have fun on TV in 1990. Just watch!
Your lead blogger spent too much time today doing some company stuff and arguing about the Climate Calamity™ Con-job on TUR to have a meatier post up. We'll get into the Climate stuff tomorrow then, after being so hyped up about it.
* I wish someone would do a sketch like that, some real click-bait.

PS
Yeah, but a little goes a long way. Say "Mateo" or "Martinez" correctly, and all the Mexicans within ear shot will think you speak Spanish, for whatever that's worth.

However, when he speaks it, I can tell it's perfect.
I hope you liked this skit. I'm pretty sure I'd never seen it before, till someone on TUR pasted it in.
