(Catch a wave. Catch a wave!)

Little surfer, little one,
made my heart come all undone.
Do you love me, do you, surfer girl?
Surfer girl, my little surfer girl.
The airlines have these posters inside the jet bridges. The marketing folks want to advertise destinations, that credit card, or the comfort of 1st Class, for next time I guess, or they want you to see how happy the other passengers seem with the service. Or, yeah, they want to push an agenda. Peak Stupidity previously posted about Jet Bridge Carol, who just brought back some memories without much of an agenda I could detect... and, nice hair.
This one, yes, is wokeness on display. Why does Big Business do this? Under the Crony Capitalism we've got here, you've got to play along - that's my speculation. If you take the money from The Man, then you jump when he says so. (Remember all that money doled out to the airlines 6 years ago?) Why are they still like this, with Trump & Co. pushing back against this, for a rare change? I don't think these Big Biz type's feel they have to answer to him particularly - he is seen as an anomaly.
Anyway, what IS the deal with the little Moslem surfer girl in the poster? I get one of two not-particularly-good vibes out of this:
1) The marketing people want to show that we are all the same - surfing is not just for White men and some White women in skimpy bikinis. It's for everyone, even Moslem chicks named Ayesha. That's a lie, but, whaddya' gonna do? The poster's right there.
2) There is some new destination this airline now goes to with beautiful beaches and some gnarly waves, dude! Except you don't have to be a dude. Or, maybe, if you are, you might score there with some exotic woman named Ayesha. You probably won't, because the girls and dudes are segregated in Moslem society and, even then, wearing outfits that are not at all like this wetsuit that shows all.
I just don't get an honest "Surf's up!", Beach Boys, good vibration from this woke jet bridge poster. She's not that little surfer girl I imagine when listening to the song.
I get more of a Colonel Kilgore vibe instead. I can look 10 - 20 years ahead and imagine some Western Marine Corps having to make landings on the beaches in France... no, not on the Normandy coast on the Atlantic this time, but on the Mediterranean shoreline, to attempt to take the country back from the Moslem invaders yet again. Maybe it'll be the same place where the Camp of the Saints boats first came in... Colonel Jean Raspail, III comes in low over the water, blasting out Qui saubes dar tant bon conseil denan and other Crusades music* out of his Air Cavalry division 75 y/o UH-1.
"If I say it's safe to surf this beach, it's safe to surf this beach!"
"It's pretty hairy in there, Colonel! That's Mo's point."
"Mo don't surf!"
Though the Beach Boys' Surfer Girl is appropriate for this post, it's not that good of a song. I like Brian Wilson's falsetto singing, but the melody isn't anything special. The lyrics, not that important anyway, are kind of lame. So, here's is a better surf song. I did apply for an artistic license, in case readers wonder about the bogus Geography.
If everybody had an ocean
Across the U.A.E.
Then everybody'd be surfin'
Like folks in Tennessee.
You'd see them wearing their baggies
down at the camel Grand Prix
A bulky bulky brown hijab,
Surfin' U.A.E.
You'd catch 'em surfin' at Dearborn
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
Ventura County line
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
Santa Cruz and Trestles
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
Australia's Narrabeen
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
All over Manhattan
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
And down Doheny Way
(Inside, outside)
Everybody's gone surfin'.
Surfin' U.A.E.
We'll all be planning on a room
we're gonna take real soon.
We're waxing down our surfboards.
We can't wait for June.
We'll all be gone for the hodge fest.
A pilgrimage to the sea.
Tell the iman we're surfin'
Surfin' U.A.E.
Swaddling Burkas and Swarma
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
Pacific Palisades
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
San Onofre and Sunset
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
Redondo Beach LA
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
All over La Jolla
(Inside, outside, U.A.E.)
The Medit'ranian Sea
(Inside, outside)
Everybody's gone surfin'.
Surfin' U.A.E.
My chronic Lyricosis is something else. Until today, I'd though it was "Everybody had a notion..." How would one know, back before the internet? Until I went to California, I wouldn't have been able to name half those places in the song, and what was a "Sananofrian sunset", and what about "way down the beach, LA", "and the Caribbean", and "All over the harbor" that Mike Love was on about?
Full Disclosure: Peak Stupidity bloggers don't surf either. I have a hard enough time on a boogie board - just don't get that catching a wave thing yet. OTOH, only Dennis Wilson of the Beach Boys surfed, and he was the one who drowned. (Alcohol was involved but not surfing.)
* What, you didn't know that was a genre? Here.

PS: Hello again, Adam. I just now looked at your link with AI's description of the many travails of Somalian women and other black people who can't swim. It sounds to me like it's all our fault. Hopefully, I won't lose any sleep over this...
Back to cars, we only have regular full coverage on the one, that Hyundai. The others are "occasional drivers", maybe not the right term, and this company Hagarties has them insured for a lot less. I name the value for each, as (my mechanic friend turned me on to this) otherwise, were there a wreck, some great car that you put a lot of work into will get you paid blue book value maybe $2,000, who knows. We'll only really find out if this company will pay off honesty, if one gets wrecked, so I hope to never find out.
I used to insure a couple of them for just the liability required by law. The Korea-mobile may end up on that plan after a year or two more.
See, I can talk to her about the windshield expenses all I want, but I think she doesn't want to hear it. Anyway, she's been making some decent money herself, so when she gets mad about it - seeing that we have some problems with one vehicle - she says that she'll just buy one. OK by me, but who pays the insurance and taxes - you got it. It's OK.

PS: So it's pretty territorial, Alarmist. I've been to Santa Cruz, but not for surfing. Since I was writing about mis-hearing song lyrics, your mention of Santa Cruz reminded me of the Doobie Brothers.
The song is "Neal's Fandango", and man, they sing fast on that one! I couldn't get half of the lyrics for years - "Loma Preita, my mountain home, on the hills above Santa Cruz, the place where I spent my youth." Then there was the earthquake out there in 1989, with Loma Prieta as the epicenter, so I sure heard of it then and figured out that lyric at least.
Which now reminds me of a lyric I swapped out in "Surfin' USA" that I thought was "and raunchy sandals too..." Haha, well I don't wear sandals, so how would I know it was "Huarachi sandals too"?
It's getting chilly where I live too. Unfortunately, we have no garden because there's a huge log that will be milled laying across the yard. (When the guy comes to get that for milling, his equipment will tear up any plants ruthlessly.)

I looked it up. On Aug 30, 2022 I paid $48.17 (including tax and shipping) for this item...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/351775769778
Which is quite a bit cheaper than the part I linked to earlier. (And only 73 cents more than I paid just 1342 days ago!)
Glad I figured that out. Lol...

PS: Good evening, Mr. Alarmist!
Thank you kindly.
𝐼 𝑔𝑢𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑤𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑙𝑙 𝑠𝑒𝑒... Indeed we will.
𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑜𝑓 𝑀𝑎𝑦 𝑜𝑟 𝑒𝑣𝑒𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝐽𝑢𝑛𝑒‽ Oh my... June? Let's hope it doesn't come to that. May God bless you and your tomatoes with warmth and sunshine.
The old timey farmers 'round here say we're in the clear by May 15 and Mrs. Smith isn't worried about another frost this year. She says it isn't in the cards. Accuweather is now predicting maybe an hour of 43° at 7am. 59° by 10. It's currently (7pm) 67°
Looks like I'm in the clear tonight.
𝐿𝑜𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑠 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦 𝑚𝑒𝑎𝑛𝑠 𝑙𝑜𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑠 𝑜𝑛𝑙𝑦.
I've heard this sort of story from other surfers.
It's not a raycissism. Just the way it is.
Thanks again. Best of luck to you and your tomatoes.
And cheers to a wonderful evening/morning!

BTW, I surfed Santa Cruz once. You’ve probably heard the phrase “Locals only.” It has little to do with race, but is more to keep the lineup open for the locals who would otherwise be crowded out by what we used to call Team Gold Card (I guess that would be Team Platinum Card now), surfer tourists who can swarm the best breaks. The guys at Santa Cruz were hard core militants. The reason I got away with it was that one of the locals was a friend. The charge of racism is largely a canard. Locals only means locals only.

The guys at Santa Cruz were hard core militants. The reason I got away with it was that one of the locals was a friend. The charge of racism is largely a canard. Locals only means locals only.

Afternoon, Gents.
Mr. Smith, your digital arts are inspired.
I just planted out my tomatoes today; no frost forecast for the immediate future, but sometimes we get a late one at the end of May or even in June. I guess we will see.
Have a good rest of your Sunday.

If you search the web for 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑢𝑛𝑏𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑎𝑏𝑙𝑒 𝑊ℎ𝑖𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑒𝑠𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑠𝑢𝑟𝑓𝑖𝑛𝑔 you can find all sorts of not so interesting articles about the lack of diversity and the toxic Whiteness of surfing and surf culture. I'm not going to bother linking to any of them because it's all so tiresome.
I am, however, going to bring our previous conversation forward...

That's one of the nice things about having old cars. (At least here in Georgia. Probably similar in 𝐑𝐄𝐃𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐄𝐃?) The ad valorem taxes on "classic cars" is much lower. Our 26 and 36 year old cars are each $20/year for tags. (They've both aged out of the ad valorem tax scheme.) I'd also imagine (((insurance))) is much less for older cars than it would be on some fancy new shitmobile. (Might be an added selling point for Mrs. Newman?)
You also might want to remind her that a replacement windshield on a new car is much, much more expensive because of the cameras and sensors and such. (I've heard of windshield replacements on newer vehicles costing several thousand dollar bucks. I think I learned of that right here in the PS comment section.)
I posted this car yesterday...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/227289472695
And today, because I viewed it, the seller offered to sell it to me for just $10,500. So, if any of you guys are interested in a nice, German made 1999 Mercedes E320 with 34,000 original miles on it, well, you know he'll accept $10,500 if not less.
I don't need another car right now, but if I did, I would definitely check it out. (It's located in Boca Raton in case anyone is interested.)
Also... I looked at a new washer tank for a Dodge Dakota and I either misremembered the price when I said ~$40 or inflation has kicked in or perhaps some of both. It was a couple years back so it is as likely that I am mistaken as it is for the dollar's loss of purchasing power driving up the price.
https://www.ebay.com/itm/295818239745
The accuweather tells me that we have a frost warning for tonight. So... I might have to keep an eye on that and (maybe?) do something to cover my baby tomatoes.(?)
That's about it here. It is a little chilly out there but otherwise sunny and beautiful. Perhaps I'll get out in the yard and do a little something productive?
(Anyway...)
I hope you guys have a wonderful rest of the weekend!

PS: Good afternoon (I think), Alarmist.
1) That's too bad. Now, out in LA, I've been in that water, and I could see wearing a wetsuit even in August. That Pacific Current is COLD! I don't recall if you said if your corner was on the Gulf or Atlantic, but then, where's the surfing? All I know of is Sebastian, on the east coast.
2) I haven't every been to Hawaii - all I know of the place is from "Hawaii 5-0", haha.
3) I used "Mo" for familiarity's sake, but "Haji" has the right meter.

3 observations:
1) In my corner of Flotida, female surfers wear some variation of a wet suit or at least fuller cover; bikinis are a risky proposition if one wipes out;
2) I do not recall seeing a dark surfer anywhere outside Hawaii; I know there must be some somewhere, but IDK where. I also saw no dark operators in my military days.
3) Like Charlie, Haji don’t surf.

You probably have seen "Point Break", which is one of my favorite action movies. I tried to find some surfing quotes on the IMDB page for this movie, but the post was long enough.
