Since this post includes news from Germany, Peak Stupidity will do our usual mock-German, seeing as how most of what I know of the language I learned from Hogan's Heroes. This would also be a good time to wish our friend Dieter Kief well. I hope and pray you are recovering, Dieter.
We can probably only dream of removing any of the topic keys of stupidity here. Exceptions would be the very specific ones based on people. For example, could we eventually get rid of Karmakarma Kameleon. We're hoping she burns out or fades away, whatever is better for
ZeroHedge has posted a couple of articles recently that make me hopeful. The first one is scientific - Net Zero Activists Stumped By Shock New Evidence Showing No Link Between CO2 & Temperature Over Last Three Million Years, written by one Chris Morrison of the Daily Sceptic. Well, the science is in the second half of that headline.

As abstracted by ZH from this Nature article of which I can only read the abstract, from some long ice cores outta Antarctica:
The climate science world (‘settled’ division) is in shock following the discovery in ancient ice cores that levels of carbon dioxide remained stable as the world plunged into an ice age around 2.7 million years ago. Levels of CO2 at around 250 parts per million (ppm) were said to be lower than often assumed with just a 20 ppm movement recorded for the following near three million-year period. In addition, no changes in methane levels were seen in the entire period. Massive decreases in temperature with occasional interglacial rises appear to have occurred without troubling ‘greenhouse’ gas levels, and this revelation has caused near panic in activist circles.I've been repeating this over and over [/Yogi Berra], if you don't know the exact processes that cause the Ice Ages, how can you presume to have an accurate model of the climate. Now, because the Climate Alarmists have pinned all their hopes on the Greenhouse Effect (only a part of the WHOLE PICTURE) and Carbon Dioxide (sure, and Methane), anything contrary to their long-term narrative may give many people pause.
The assumed level three million years ago of CO2 was around 400 ppm, a convenient mark that has been used to explain the subsequent ice age and a drop to 250 ppm.As we and one Tony Heller explained*, changing time ranges is a way of fooling the public, and even other scientists.
Even the authors of the paper itself absolutely do not want to deviate from the consensus and kill the goose that lays those sweet, sweet grant money eggs.
Study lead author Julia Marks-Peterson noted: “We definitely were a bit surprised. If correct, the findings may suggest that even small changes in greenhouse gas levels could trigger major shifts in climate.”No. That's not science. If you've been assuming that it was large changes in CO2 that mattered, as determined by YOUR MODEL (remember your mathematical model?), then this finding really says that you should go looking for another cause for your alleged Climate Crisis. Or is it that they've been fudging the models, and this is just thinking out loud that "hey, let's make it work with smaller CO2 changes." At this point, I guess they're fully invested in the CO2 story. There's no turning back. It's CO2 or bust.
Well, that's a setback of the "scientific consensus", a most bogus term anyway. This whole thing has been a political program though, at least after the first few years long ago. The Western World has fallen for it, not because we're so science-minded, but because we are a sucker for destructive Globalist/Communist programs due to our caring spirit and stupidity. (That "royal 'our'" wrt the latter does not include Peak Stupidity bloggers, commenters, or readers.)

All that low-carbon-footprint, net-zero virtue signaling stupidity in the energy business has not been helpful to Western nations’ economies. At this point, Germany, having shut down its nuclear power plants, and with a war going on effecting energy flow, is not faring well. Much solid manufacturing industry, for which Germany is world-renowned, is being lost, as it depends on reasonably priced reliable energy, i.e. not the green stuff. Germans, above all (except the USA due to, I'll get to that) are wising up.
On ZeroHedge I also just read Cracks Appear In Climate Consensus As Germany's Energy Minister Admits Renewables Are Ruining The Country yesterday, by one Tilak Doshi. That energy minister is Katherina Reiche, who apparently received a nice emoji and three kind words on a tweet of hers from some Swedish guy. (I mean, this is the world of 2026 - that's, like, news!)
What Minister Reiche wrote in a guest column in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung is “One fact has been concealed for too long: an energy transition that ignores system costs will ruin the country it claims to save.” Nein Scheiße, Fraulein, is all Peak Stupidity would like to append to that, with, of course, a matching emoji.
I'm not completely sure this Energy Minister really understands how much Germany has been conned - she just sees it not working out so well. However, I think Fraulein (can that be used for lesbians?) Alice Weidel of the conservative, anti-invasion AfD party does:
Conservative leader Alice Weidel, riding a surge of popularity for the conservative-populist AfD party that is now second only to the ruling CDU/CSU coalition, has forthrightly stated that under an AfD-led government, the Net Zero movement would be rejected:Alice, welcome to Peak Stupidity, and thank you for reading. We admitted in this post that President Trump's term for this stupidity was even better than the "scam" or "hoax" that we've used and Alice Weidel attributes to him.We must also declare the climate crisis over. The whole thing is, as the American President so nicely puts it, a hoax – it is a complete scam. … We must immediately end the failed Energiewende. We must also immediately cut back and eliminate the waste of resources and the subsidies for so-called renewable energies.
"Scam" implies people getting swindled in business dealings, as in, money is involved. That is indeed a part of this. People that really aren't worried about temperatures and sea levels have been making bank off the taxpayer-funded incentives and bogus projects in the energy economy. "Hoax" implies deception or trickery. That is being used on the people, who don't know enough science and have trusted governments and Globalist elites.
The Climate Calamity™ has been both a scam and a hoax and more. It's not just about deception and the money. It's a program designed to let Globalists take control of the huge sector of the world's economy that is energy production/distribution/use, China, as always, excepted. What Trump said that fits best what's been going on is that "Climate change is "the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world."" Yes, Alice, it's a con-job.
Would we see any of these cracks in the political consensus on the Climate Calamity™ had Donald Trump not been elected President again in '24? I don't think so. Of course I'm not happy about much of what this blowhard has been doing over the last 2 months, but much of what I excitedly wrote in November of '24 in Have we voted our way out of this? still stands.
* There's more in Part 2.

Many of these people (Eurotards and other members of the "renewable" or "green" energy cult) don't realize where the metals and other resources for all the electric motors come from or how how much diesel the enormous earth moving machines at the mines use. (Or how much diesel and other resources go into manufacturing these machines in the first place.)
Hell, they don't even realize that it takes 700 gallons of oil to do an oil change on the average 5MW wind turbine. They also have no idea that the average 5MW wind turbine transformer typically requires approximately 1,200 to 1,500 gallons of insulating oil. If they knew how much oil leaks out of just one of these turbines they would likely be horrified. (Because oil = double plus bad!)
Likewise with solar farms. I know someone who inherited a some farm land in west Texas. About 8 or 10 years ago this person was getting solicitations in the mail to put a solar farm on their property. These companies had no interest in buying the land. Instead, they were offering to lease the land (for 20 years) at prices well over not only the normal agricultural lease price (this person gets $13 an acre from a renter that runs cattle and grows wheat) but many multiples higher than they could purchase this land for.
After a little research we determined that these solar companies do so because they do not want the liability associated with the clean up costs (or the outright destruction of the land that is caused by these large solar farms)(large in this case means approximately 300 acres) that would likely be required by some "government" or other regulatory bureaucrats. While the initial offer looks good on paper (who wouldn't want to lease land that is valued at $1000 an acre to a solar company for 20 years at $2000 an acre per year?) but the fines and fees on the backside can be quite devastating. Just the chemicals they spray to sterilize the soil (so weeds don't grow around the solar arrays) will destroy the soil for a generation.

I hope you have a wonderful rest of your evening and an even better tomorrow, Mr. Alarmist!

PS: Thanks, Alarmist, for the info on Sulphur Hexafluoride that’s used in electrical components. Nobody wants to get into those additional technical details, because the narrative is “Stop burning ‘fossil’* fuels!”. Not making electrical components, some that are part of Net Zero and EVs, well, you’re opening up another barrel of worms. They don’t need that right now.
Ha! “Barrel of worms.” A commenter on ZH used that mixed metaphor. I don’t write there, but had I been, I would have queried him “Hey, exactly how much fishing do you do anyway? How do you have time to comment here?” Barrel full of monkeys, maybe? Ink by the barrel? Barrel of fun? Bucket of chicken? I’m losing it here, so, anyway…
I totally agree that we are the carbon they are trying to reduce. They have the big footprint, that’s, per Orwell to be applied to our faces.
* Quotes because people are not so sure about the “fossil” part anymore - I’m no oilman, so I’ve got no idea.

PS: Adam, thanks for the graph and the table.
On the graph, one can easily see the times when gold was “at a high”, the high being against the US dollar, meaning not what people think it means. Sure, I do think both during that short spike in ‘79-‘80 and then the last year or so, “investors”, who are also not doing what “investing” means, IMO, were pushing it up farther than the value of the $US would/does warrant. In the long run, it seems that the gold knows.
From that table, RH-most column, one can see how bad workingman’s wages are in real money now. Just averaging in my head, during that whole ‘55 to ‘85 30 years, a man could buy a house flat-out with 20,000 hours of work. That’s still 10 years though. Now, over the last 1/2 decade, we’re talking 20 years. Things are not getting better economically, that’s for sure.

Afternoon, all.
So they tell us Carbon Dioxide is the serious problem, so we should electrify everything. Ignoring where you get the electricity, Sulphur Hexafluoride is 23,500 times more potent as a greenhouse gas. It is also a trace gas in the atmosphere… at least for now… but it is used as a dialectric in various components in the electricity generation and distribution systems of the world, so more electric means more potential leakage of SF8 into the atmosphere. It is also used as an etchant in the manufacture of semiconductors, so more solar cells means more potential leakage of SF8 into the atmosphere.
The Eurotards are cutting down forests and covering otherwise arable land to deploy solar cells to feel good about saving Mother Gaia, but they are like Aztec Priests sacrificing babies to appease their bloodthirsty gods.
And instead of facing the reality that the Iran war is presenting Europe with a return to a new dark age, they are hell-bent to double down on their Net Zero fantasy. Truth be told, we are the carbon they want to reduce.

Yeah... They'll tell you all sorts of things. And sure. I don't want .04% of my spaghetti sauce to be fresh feces or ricin. But it is pretty clear that co2 is not driving any so-called climate change. I do agree with you that climate science is much more complicated than mainstream climatologists and other grifters understand. I also agree that water vapor and methane are more disruptive/powerful than co2 when it comes to heat balance of the earth/atmosphere.
Here's a little something off topic that I think you'll enjoy. These belong under an inflation post but I only recently came across them and I'd rather share them with you now than wait for the next inflation post...

PS: Yes, that’s a simple pie chart to show that CO2 is a “trace gas”, like Argon.
But the Greenhouse Effect depends on the particular properties of gases to absorb electromagnetic radiation of specific wavelengths, and they’ll tell you that CO2 (they don’t like to talk about H2O, which is the OTHER product of combustion of hydrocarbons) makes a big difference even in small amounts. I should say differences of this small amount.
They do not want anyone to understand though, that the heat balance of the earth is complicated, with lots of “moving parts”, so to speak, and they have not EVER gotten a handle on it. I don’t blame them for not having gotten a handle on it either, but the climatologists want fame & fortune, and the people who’ve been running the con-job want what they want.
I hope we can hear back from Dieter.

Good Evening Mr. Smith.
Your observations are spot on. ‘Will’ is strong but probably on the side of more accurate than ‘might.’
I sat through an investment pitch where the guys trying to get me to include their fund in mine told me the invest in e-vehicles “from end to end” So I asked them where they source their power, to which they replied, “That’s outside our portfolio.” Then I asked how they disposed of or recycled their e-vs at their end of life: also outside their remit. That was pretty much the end of the pitch, but for my colleagues’ benefit I asked how they assure no human rights violations in the sourcing of the rare earth elents for batteries and such.
Green Investing is one of the biggest scams ever, which is a shame, because there are a lot of things we could do for Earth and the Children of God.
Nice Om you typed there 😃
