We were pretty excited last year, the Year of the Pig (no offense intended toward any specific IRS employees when the new pie charts came out!. Income tax calculation date for me is the night of April 14th, as I usually owe money, and sometimes a few days later if I've got important posts to write.
However, the IRS on-line booklets* come out much earlier in the year. I've had the following graphic saved for a couple of weeks already. It's the usual, and you may be bored, as usual. It's just the normal noises around here.

Note, that the .pdf from the IRS is for the '25 tax year, but each time, they include these basic numbers from the most recent fiscal year. I think that's the deal. This time, I'll put last year's (see link above) pie charts right here for comparison:

Now, the whole fiscal situation is worrisome, but the most worrisome sector, as in piece of pie on the expenditures pie (on the right) is the net interest on the national debt. It went from and 11% piece to a 13% piece... only 2% higher... BUZZZ! No, that's 2 percentage points higher, but 18% higher... roughly, as we only have a precision of 1 percentage point.
What's the big deal? Well, absolute-numbers-wise, that 13 % of those $6.75 Trillion in Federal Outlays (as it says below) = ~ $880 Billion in interest. What net rate has this interest been paid at. Let's see - let me take an average between end-of-fiscal-year (end of September) '23 and eofy '24. That's an average of $33.1 Trillion and $35.5 Trillion, so let's use $34.3 Trillion. $0.88 Trillion out of that $34.3 Trillion is about 2 1/2 %. That's a pretty nice rate! It's good to be
What's the point here? Same as every year, until things get bad enough so we don't have time to post these boring ones amid from our bunker in Scottsdale while still cooking our 10 y/o beans on the sterno stove. That'd be that, look, that $0.88 Trillion is 18% (coincidental value there) of the $4.92 Trillion of Federal Income collected (the left pie). Could Trump appoint a Paul Volcker (see "1980s") 2.0 to let interest rates to a high level to tame inflation**?
Well, President Trump would be the last to do that - he's got his own new FED Chairman in there now specifially to hold the rates down, and he even, in that real Caudillo-style, has his own BLS head to DO THE DAMN NUMBERS BETTER!*** No matter, were an effort made to let rates rise, even to nowhere-near-Volcker-level rates, but say, a normal 7% price-of-money rate, then (7%/2.5% x 18%) right at 50% of all monies collected would need to go straight to paying off Treasury Bonds.
If you read the previous posts with the pie charts - going back in time - here - - here - - here and here - you'll see that the situation is getting worse.
OK, done, and done. We'll get to a few posts on Governor Mike DeWine and the Haitians of Ohio and also, before or after that, a couple of posts with discussion of the NTSB final report on the just-over-year-ago air crash at Washington Reagan Aiport (DCA). Good night. Give 'em hell... errr, Ron Unz that would be... but nicely. There's another post or two.
* I'll have to ask the library and the post office if they have actual paper ones still, just to know.
** Trump got you convinced there IS none? Go shopping, for food and a car...
*** Actually, Trump does have good evidence (we all do) that the Brandon-appointed previous BLS head fudged the job numbers recently to make Trump look bad. The numbers were WAY off. However, on inflation, well, good luck to the new guy, Kevin Warsh- it takes a clear mind to ... fake it.

"I remember that his method involved using surnames (maybe first names additionally)"
Well, that would tend to compensate for the systematic errors in reporting on race. I did not notice that in his article. To be honest, after having been insulted by him I didn't think I owed him a close reading of it anyway and resented bing assigned "homework".
Your points about the successive filters involved between the commission of a crime and punishment for said crime are quite valid. Also, one can see a certain advantage to an illegal alien in committing a crime. Since the Law doesn't even know who they are, has no official record of them, and given their propensity to live quasi off-the-grid (cash purchases, etc.) you would think that would give them an advantage in not being detected.
All I can say is that given how violent their native countries are, it's hard to believe that a large fraction of those populations come here and all of a sudden become model citizens.

PS: “I see ever dwindling utility in the Unz.com site.”
I’ve had these very same thoughts this week. First off, “How much time have I wasted?!” I wondered, after “conversing” with Mr. Unz.
“Sailer's page was the principal draw for me, and then he went off the rails during COVID. Some of Ron Unz's articles are quite interesting, especially his articles on WWII and the erasure of many prominent public intellectuals from American publications in the post-war period.”
Well, of course, Steve Sailer is gone. The group left is like friends, but I think I could quit more easily - this time - due to that I wouldn’t see very interesting Steve Sailer topics that a) I want to write in about, b) I want to read comments about, and c) I want to converse with the friends there about.
Now, sometimes the conversation is interesting, sometimes not. I see Mr. Unz’s articles on top of the iSteve Community threads. He’s got every right, of course - it’s his site. However, I see almost NOBODY discussing them, which is kind of humorous. I doubt Mr. Unz is pleased about that.
“But a lot of what's there now is just dross: cranks of various stripes. And a lot of the commenters are just exasperating with their stupidity.”
This has gotten MUCH worse. I’ll have a post about this, since I do spend so much time on the site and write posts that relate to it.
“That said, it is a pretty free-wheeling commenting environment. Mr. Unz does seem dedicated to the idea of promoting the maximum flow of ideas and without filters. He does provide a genuine service in that regard.” Yes, it is, and yes, he does. He’s a strange bird, that’s for sure.
I expect I will begin to disengage from it. I can probably find better ways to spend my few free hours.

PS: “I don't know where Mr. Unz get's his notion that prison authorities are scrupulous about distinguishing between non-hispanic whites and hispanic mestizos. Law enforcement organizations don't seem to be - I don't know why prisons would be any different.”
I remember that his method involved using surnames (maybe first names additionally), as he brought up the problem of mis-classification. That’s not to say he has a complete handle on that, but I let that part go. My concern is, as you’ve probably read there, that Ron Unz goes by incarceration counts. Well, as I wrote him, not all convicted people even get put away, not all who go to court get convicted, not all who are arrested end up in court, not all who commit violent crimes get found to BE arrested, and not all (even) violent crimes get reported. That’s a lot of steps. Are the fractions for each of these steps the same for all races/ethnicities? When it comes to Hispanics vs White OR regular black American, hell no, they aren’t, and we know (from getting around!) which way the lean.
“A lot of Unz's opinions on hispanic crime seem to be informed by where he lives: East Palo Alto. EPA was a predominantly black neighborhood in the 70s and 80s, and it had a high crime rate, at least for the Peninsula. Then it got latinized as hispanics moved in and blacks moved out and - yes - the crime rate did go down. That pattern has been replicated in many places.”
One commenter called it NIMBYism. I’d agree with that. He just doesn’t care about the rest of us, AND when it comes to crime - not the only problem with immigration as we’ve told him and he admits - he has this assumption that everyone is against Hispanics. Even if they were no more violent and thieving than White people, first, of course, that’s not even the main problem, but secondly, there are African blacks in large numbers, Haitians, but I repeat myself, etc…
“But while EPA may be a relatively nice place to live now (except perhaps for the homelessness, which is a new thing on the Peninsula), that doesn't mean that every largely hispanic city is. How about Albuquerque, for example:
https://www.neighborhoodscout.com/nm/albuquerque/crime”
Thanks for that, Mr. Anon.
“I get the impression that Mr. Unz doesn't get out much.” Agreed.
I don’t know if one can do a search of both my comments addressed to Mr. Unz + “don’t get out much”, haha, but you’ll see that I’ve said that multiple times, in that thread and before. Or just search under my comments for “don’t get out much” or “Palo Alto.”

PS: To that Ron Unz thread. "We'll be back!"
It's just that it's not so fun for me to take part in these frustrating arguments either. I want to respond on my method of extrapolating and estimating wrt all kinds of things, but those illegal Chinese and Indian people specifically.
Then, it'd be fair if he just told me "Read my paper first!", so I'll tell him that, but I don't see what in it* could possibly account for people whose crimes weren't even reported or who were not found. Incarcerations don't count just arrested either, but perhaps he somehow explained that to me - doesn't seem like it, though.
* I also read much of it, not 15 years ago but around 8 when I first started getting on TUR site.

Gemini agrees. (I know that AI is often completely useless as a source, but... Ron Unz seems to value an AI opinion more than most opinions. Much like he prefers official mainstream sources. Weird, but it is what it is.)
I see nothing in his lengthy screeds to convince me that correctional intake records are accurate. Especially regarding the Hispanic question.
It also seems to me that he is relying heavily on this document...
https://bjs.ojp.gov/content/pub/pdf/pjim05.pdf
And it appears to rely heavily on 2000 census data. (In the 2000 census ~48% of hispanics are classified as non-hispanic Whites.) (The 2010 census, apparently, classifed ~53% of hispanics and non-hispanic Whites.)
Again I see nothing in his work to account for the discrepancies found in these faulty data sets. I don't think he even acknowledges the inaccuracies found in this data.
How does one divine accurate Hispanic crime statistics from faulty, erroneous data?
But... I only went over these quickly, and when I got home from work I just wasn't in the mood to dig though his 13,000 words so I could prepare a proper fisking. (I'm disinclined to start an internet argument anyway. It doesn't seem advantageous to me nor worth my time right now. I have things to do today.)
And, it seems like you guys, (Messrs. Anon and Moderator) have already covered some of this with Unz in your comments.
Mr. Unz sure is an obstinate character.
So, yeah. I'm going to wrap this up for now because I have to get going. The work does not do itself. (Unfortunately.)

I quickly reacquainted myself with those two Unz articles yesterday (before I headed out to work) and it seems to me that he is attempting to disprove/fix erroneous yet Official™ "government" data by using other erroneous yet Official™ "government" data. For example... (From 𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝑀𝑦𝑡ℎ 𝑜𝑓 𝐻𝑖𝑠𝑝𝑎𝑛𝑖𝑐 𝐶𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑒)
𝑂𝑛𝑒 𝑚𝑒𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑐 𝑡𝑜 𝑒𝑥𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑒 𝑚𝑖𝑔ℎ𝑡 𝑏𝑒 𝑟𝑒𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑒 𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑎𝑟𝑐𝑒𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑠, 𝑠𝑖𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑠𝑡 𝑝𝑒𝑜𝑝𝑙𝑒 𝑤ℎ𝑜 𝑏𝑒𝑔𝑖𝑛 𝑎 𝑙𝑖𝑓𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑐𝑟𝑖𝑚𝑖𝑛𝑎𝑙 𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑡𝑦 𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑢𝑝 𝑏𝑒ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑑 𝑏𝑎𝑟𝑠 𝑠𝑜𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑟 𝑜𝑟 𝑙𝑎𝑡𝑒𝑟—𝑢𝑠𝑢𝑎𝑙𝑙𝑦 𝑠𝑜𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑟. This to me looks like a completely baseless assertion or a wild leap of faith by UNZ to support his own predetermined conclusions.

I hope you guys all have a wonderful day! ☮️

PS: "Unz.com just isn't what it used to be, is it?" Nah, and it's not about Ron's personality - he's always been like that - but, yes, the new writers he's got now AND his own writing are/is completely anti-anything-American, anti-Trump (I know YOU lean that way), and pro-China to ridiculousness.
I actually read that Hua Bin's latest because (when I go there to have fun in the comments) I remarked that he ought to write about what he knows, such as the new thing with the #2 military man being arrested, Xi's Mom being held hostage (getting this from a Chinese person here), etc.
Well, he did. So, to be fair, I read it. However, first Mr. Hua trashed all the media in America that wrote about this story, including the WSJ, but then he admitted that he didn't know squat about the story other than... something he read in the WSJ! What a complete dufus! The thing about Run Unz is, he's just TERRIBLE at judging people. I don't say that based on his comments to you and me either. I say that in regards for the writers he picks AND that he'll take some guy who wrote a handful of comments he wants to hear, and that he agrees with, and he'll elevate that guy to his mentor. It's the same with the people he watches in youtube videos.
"This guy explains this whole subject very well. You ignoramae ought to watch all his videos!" 3 months later: "That guy? No, I've proved him wrong on this. You ignoramae should stop listening to his BS."

PS: Mr. Anon, Ron Unz got unexpected apologetic, but regarding "Apparently I committed the crime of Lese Majeste - failing to read one of Mr. Unz's articles from 15 years ago", I still think he doesn't get MY point, even after another response from him.
However, I should probably read the paper again, but I could use a very short explanation on how he knows how many Hispanics commit crimes, when the crimes aren't even reported, or they are but Jose is never even found. I may try...

@ SafeNow
As we know from Gerd Gigerenzer's great books - - the vast majority of med. Doctors don't get such pecentage-questions right:
"From an article on how people get fooled by percentages:
“Incredibly, after 16 years of schooling, the majority of American college students get this question wrong:
What is the total percentage change in the following situation?
Decrease of 40% followed by an increase of 60%.
A. Increase of 10%
B. Increase of 20%
C. Decrease of 4%
D. None of the above.
The answer, of course, is C, an overall decrease of 4%. Not only did the majority of college students get this question wrong, they did not even get the correct direction, with over half guessing this was an increase. The common error is taking the percentages at face value and adding them together”

"The latest is he said I’ve had nothing intelligent to say over 29,000 comments. Many though, too many, were in that thread in which I tried to explain things to him. No replies, generally. He skims over the intelligent ones… or something, haha."
Yeah, that was rich. He called you a loon who has never posted anything intelligent. And yet this is the guy who has given a platform to Andrew Anglin*, Kevin Barrett, and Jonathan Revusky.
Unz.com just isn't what it used to be, is it?
*Mind you, Anglin occasionally says something I agree with (I almost never read his stuff), but he is needlessly crude and confrontational - he is one of the alt-right guys who openly larped as a Nazi. Barrett is a white muslim convert who is gullible for any conspiracy theory, no matter how assinine, and Revusky is a demented crank.

Apparently I committed the crime of Lese Majeste - failing to read one of Mr. Unz's articles from 15 years ago.
Mea Culpa. Mea Maxima Culpa.
I did read one of them. His analysis is still prone to the error that I and others pointed out - the mis-classification of hispanics as whites in arrest records, and presumably incarceration statistics. Unless the Law changes the race box from "white" to "hispanic" when they send them up. But given that hispanic is not even considered a racial category, I suspect they don't.
Anyway, Ron will probably just call me a lazy ignoramus for pointing this out.

PS: Thanks for chiming in on Ron Unz’s latest post, Mr. Smith. Hey, we tried.
The latest is he said I’ve had nothing intelligent to say over 29,000 comments. Many though, too many, were in that thread in which I tried to explain things to him. No replies, generally. He skims over the intelligent ones… or something, haha.
His Hispanic crime paper is known by about everybody with any sense to be highly erroneous and stupid. It takes a big man to admit he’s wrong, and Ron Unz is not that man.

PS: And … college student are not what they used to be either. I am hoping that those who mix actual percentage change in a number valued as a percentage itself is just in the wrong terminology. With higher numbers, it matters less. 76% is not 1% higher than 75%, but it is 1.3% higher, not as big an error.
What was that, Ivory soap, that was advertised as 99.4% pure? Would people have bought just as much of it - I’m actually stocked up on it for the SHTF, happily - if it were advertised as 97.1% pure. I guess that depends on whether the impurities were just some other oils or rat hairs and cockroach shit.

And an even worse than a stacking error is of course the one in the essay, involving how to state the magnitude of a change in a component.
Oh well, the big thing is the sin of increasing-but-unaffordable spending. But the uniparty would rather laugh with the sinners than cry with the saints.

Right. Mr. Unz has never addressed these concerns, Mr. Anon.
No, I don’t believe Mr. Unz’s results, even as adjusted for age, as was a part of it. (… which is fine, but if the Hispanics are in general younger then he’d be admitting they DO commit more crime by a good amount. When will that population itself get “age-adjusted”?”
