Don't Cross the River

... if you can't swim the tide.

I can't leave that nasty BLM woman at the top of the Peak Stupidity site for the rest of the weekend.

My favorite America song isn't Sister Golden Hair, one we featured last Saturday. It's very short, but Don't Cross the River, also from half a century ago, is my favorite.

The live version is slower than what I've been used to and doesn't have the banjo. Here's the album version.

Enjoy a restful Sunday, Peakers. Thanks for reading what little we've had lately. Next week's posts will hopefully be more frequent and more interesting.

PS
In doing some superficial research about this group’s techniques, I encountered these terms 1) Three-part harmony; and 2) Layered harmony. I then wanted to dig deeper to try to understand these. I do not have an aptitude for the technical aspects of music; I simply know what I like. Well, I easily grasped the former, but the latter was hopelessly beyond me. It is interesting and poignant to me how the good Lord handed-out brain competency in a way that divides abilities; that is, if you got a big dose of A, B, and C, there was almost always no way you would also receive X, Y, and Z.

PS Don't forget the best two-chord song, Horse With No Name.

PS: Yeah, "Ventura Highway" would be in contention. "Only in Your Heart" and "Lonely People" would be right on up there too. Upon looking it up, I saw that this greatest hits album was released 50 years ago last month.

For me it was always a toss-up between Sister Golden Hair and Tin Man, but one of my fave memories was hearing Ventura Highway on my last trip down that very highway (another is hearing The Cars ‘Touch and Go’ on the ADF while doing T&Gs one Saturday afternoon).

PS: I'm glad you liked this one, SafeNow. I had (maybe still do somewhere) the America's Greatest Hits album on vinyl. This very short song was my favorite.

Yes, the Americans of America were probably pretty homesick over in Europe - they were military "brats".

Maybe the song will be enjoyed by young people watching the movies, but I probably won't catch their movies in return.

Thank you for introducing me to this song. It is autobiographical literally for the group, which crossed the ocean, but of course it is highly metaphorical. I really liked it. Back in the day, I enjoyed their soft-rock sound, and their harmonies, in their hits - - as you would guess. According to the video about the group’s history, current movie producers have discovered their sound. I am glad that the new generation of people - - those who watch current “movies” - - are being exposed to their sound.
