You would need a reformed former pirate though. I doubt there are any. If they're in the USA, it's because they thought moving overseas was less dangerous.

I imagine Conservative black man Jason Riley is not one of them, but the problem with his statement is two-fold:

1) Black political grift in the US from your ordinary 3-centuries-long settled here black people is very high too. It's especially high with black women in office. I mean, you can almost bet that any one of them WILL go use tax money to buy a "style and profile" Mercedes or handbags and vacation trips at some point. It's a trope about black women, in this case a very accurate trope.

2) "You can't do that here" might work with flush toilets and space heaters, but it won't just cure the inherent problem, whether one would call it genetic or cultural (hard to distinguish).

Now, if you've got one or two families of Somalians coming to each big city in the US each year, same with Afghans, Bolivians, Hondurans, what have you, sure, they'll have to fit in. This kind os assimilation not only doesn't work with large numbers, but the rewards and support for this grifting only get bigger when you've got 50,000 of your fellow pirates(?) together.

Jason Riley (a black, conservative writer in the WSJ) wrote an op ed yesterday about the Somali grifting. He argued that this is understandable among immigrants who come from countries in which stealing from the government is a commonplace and is not frowned upon. He foresees a long time frame being needed to adjust and evolve people to “you don’t do that here.” I do not understand why the needed moral and civic education cannot be accomplished in, say, one minute, during arrival orientation. The teacher would have to be a Somali who is highly regarded by the community. A retired, reformed-yet-still- fearsome (Aargh!) pirate would bring credibility.
