... Here* is the easiest place to check in the near future - weeks or even months - for an update of what iis the solution or lack thereof as far as the Godaddy web problems we are having. Just to reiterate, if it turns out I've been automatically paid up, the site will be here, I'll let you all know, and I'll keep posting. However, I'll have a HUGE incentive to migrate the site to a friendlier "locale". Then, this will not be a time-sensitive thing... if I don't let it be.

I tried to say goodbye with a VERY LONG post** in early September '24. You may want to read my reason there. There's no point in another now, as anything I write now may not be viewable soon - for good or just until I straighten this out.

I backslid on my promise only a few months later during the election. I have worried about this a bit, though a friend of mine figures I'm doing the right thing by keeping on writing. By this point, I've done a number of things to try to fix our problem, I'll do what I can a little further, but other than that I should leave this up to HIM.

Keep in mind, that this is not a health problem now - in fact, I just did a regular medical thing (and how many blog posts would I have gotten outta that?!), and I'm good to go, but it's more a problem of being sick in a different way. I'm sick of the entire high-security, password-complicated, multi-factor-authentication-based, de-humanized system that I suppose has been set up to deal with this scam-laden world of today.*** (Remember just going on yahoo mail and picking up another account for this or that?) It's not even that I'm so awfully worried about sending in ID scans. After all, they have my phone # and (maybe) current credit card info - the US Feral Gov't could get what it needed. Nah, I'm just sick of dealing with it.

Yes, all the posts and comments are saved in a couple of places. If I want to keep this going, one way or another, I can. I just need to listen. In case I'm done, I want to thank all the readers, many in number per our stats, but unknown to me. Numbers have given me encouragement, but what has encouraged me even more has been the comments from all of you. Thank you all so much!

Check that link at the top on occasion...

P S: Here is more contact info for many of Mr. Hail's methods, from the comments under the previous post. Again, their not being links will make it easier for some - just copy/paste the whole block here. Thank you, Mr. Hail.

PS: Alarmist, before I got way sidetracked, the question I was going to ask is do you think LinkedIn wants all this stuff to:

a) Sell all this info, if in bulk or individually?
b) Let the Feral Gov't have it in return for favors?
c) Diligently try to make sure Indian scammers don't get your info?

Multiple answers are acceptable.

Yes, Alarmist, I'm running into this trying to nix a parking ticket. (The freaking meter had yellow showing in the mechanism because it doesn't work - I even tried with a dime.) The black guy had already printed the thing up - in the system. I had to go down there but still get told I have to write an email.

Well that is bunk, but how does it apply to what you wrote? See, I don't want to fill up my new email addresses (proton.me) with SPAM, so I just now got a new one for this kind of bureaucratic stuff. Proton.me wants to send a code to another email address. That's fine, but for some reason this time for the first time I've seen, it can't be another proton acct. OK, I went to tutamail. This worked, but talk about getting the run-around... considering if I rode my bike today, I wouldn't have gotten the bogus ticket!

PS

I had a similar issued with LinkedIn โ€ฆ they locked me out of my acccount, which I stopped using perhaps a decade ago. I found this out because I wanted to delete it. They demanded the government ID to let me back in (I hadnโ€™t even mentioned the deletion to that point, just access). Apparently it was OK to create an account back then, but now they want to harvest all sorts of PII on its victimsโ€ฆ users.

This is the only reason you will have to deal with this situation at all. Unless I'm mistaken, you will have to get godaddy to unlock your domain before you can transfer it to a different registrar. Fortunately, you have some time.

ICANN should, in theory, have the most up to date whois info. It does seem like the info has propagated. I checked four or five different whois search websites and all of them showed the 2027 date.

Thanks for the link to Mr. Hail's comment. I'm going to go check it out. Hope you have a great day...

PS: Thank you, Jim. Yeah, on-again-off-again, that's gotta be annoying, but this time it was about at least getting some words in, in case the site was just plain wiped.

I'll explain within a post today, but I didn't want to get into the detail of "it's the URL" (that is, the website name as registered) because some bad actor - you know like Sean Penn or something* - might have decided to go ahead and register it right after it was no longer mine. Just in case, again.

I will say that my friend thought I was lucky to have this URL available way back when I got it. As some here may have seen from Mr. Smith's links or pasted in here, that was in '13. I didn't do anything with it for 2 years, then for 1 year or so, I'd just mess with it, and finally the last month or so I tested what I had and went live late Nov. of '16. (No, of course it shouldn't take that long!) Keep in mind though, that the GoDaddy prices for everything were about an order of magnitude lower - it didn't matter too much, spending a couple of hundred bucks over those 3 years.

About that too, for the first 2 - 3 renewals for me, the GoDaddy cross-trained sales/technical guys (those White un-D.I.E. guys) would work with me, give me deals, tell me that there are deals I might want, whatever. Over the last few years, they've raised the prices significantly every time, and I guess the algorithms, but at least the people, must figure an existing customer gets NO BREAKS.

* "Bad actor" is in use all over the place for "bad guy". I don't particularly like the term.

PS: "Yes. I would think. But, you know... Clown World. But surely there is a way. Kill 'em with kindness and remind them that you don't want to be part of their next data breech. Maybe that will help.(?) Good luck!"

Well, it looks like I'll not have to do that, and, if PS is still running 2 years hence, and my lazy ass hasn't moved everything to another hosting company, I should have NO complaints then. (Sometimes I still do ...)

Interestingly, when I use whois, I still get that expiration of 2 days back, but your link to the real deal, the ICANN, shows that peakstupidity.com is good for 2 more years for me, as you wrote here.

That's a relief, anyway. I'll put a post up later today.

Hope this gets resolved, but...if I don't hear from you again Achmed, please take care, have a wonderful life and know that you have given many conservatives hope in this slightly-better-but-still-pretty-freaky world we live in. Looks like you figure correct. New expiration date: 2027-10-27

So that's pretty cool. I figured it might take a little while (even up to 24 hours?) to propagate through the whois system. Apparently, it happened pretty fast.

I recaptured a mirror of PS using wget without the --no-parent option looking for the other 4 image files and there was no difference. 9,315 items and 3456 images. A site capture with wget takes ~25 minutes.

I'm also trying httrack. So far it has been running for two and a half hours.(!) Currently at 11,210 items. But many of those are .tmp files so who knows how many I'll end up with. Right now, without seeing the finished product, it looks like wget is a better tool for mirroring a website. (In all fairness, I just ran it without any options. It looks like a powerful tool. Perhaps I just don't know how to use it properly.)

That's for sure. They sounded NOTHING like the D.I.E. crowd on the website... weird... OK, I wrote about that. Anyway, I might see what I can do one more time, before that URL thing becomes an "issue", oh, and check with my bank - if I did pay though, whois.com ought to reflect that right away, I figure.

Maybe, I'll use take that tack you brought up, that "I'm not comfortable" with giving them ID for that reason, and can we just figure something out. (After, all, I DO still know that old phone number too, but it was never good for sending a code to. Shouldn't a few things like this be enough info.? Do they want business or not? See, that's the difference between the White guys and the others - the former actually care about the big picture of what GoDaddy makes money doing.

That last thing hearkens to a comment Mr. Hail made on the iSteve thread #14 today. I can link you to if if your interested.

PS: I was trying not to let that particular cat out of the bag, Adam, hence my writing "for reason". That is all correct, and I think your ideas are good - I could link a dot-net or whatever, true. I will need to find out when I can get that URL on my own from Bluenote (just my first choice, but it doesn't have to be them). However about GD releasing it, that gets to the same problem - they don't want to know who I am... now I got that song in my head.

GoDaddy has refused to acknowledge that a guy with his account number who knows his email address - the one that I can't get into - might be the guy with the account. Not enough info. Granted, with the account number I could see that email address on that one page so that'd be no more good additional proof. However, I could also come up with that old phone number, but see, without the competent smart White guys, you're gonna get the usual ass-covering and non-helpful CS people.

So, I cannot get GoDaddy to release anything, tell me anything... well, I can go check with the bank now to see if they've renewed this, but I think not.

About the email addresses, I had one going back to '97 that I lost 5 years ago due to not logging in regularly. I think it was all gone. These ones, when I try to sign up as you suggested say "already taken" or something like that.

Thanks for all your many suggestions.

PS: One moar idea...

As a temporary(?) measure, peakstupidity.org ($7.48/year) and peakstupidity.net ($12.98/year) are available. You could migrate the site to another webhost and get it all setup and after godaddy lets go of the domain you could repurchase it through a different registrar. (Or you could buy it from godaddy at auction after day 26? Or from godaddy after the auction window has closed around day 36?)

Or whatever.

Maybe remind godaddy that they had a massive data breech a couple years back and you don't feel comfortable having your "government" ID on their insecure servers. Surely there is someone over at godaddy who can take your payment and get this all back up and running while bypassing the ID policy.

Here's me hoping that autopay renews your domain...

Cheers! โ˜ฎ๏ธ

PS: Good afternoon, Achmed and friends!

As far as I can tell, (and I may be wrong about this) your domain will remain active for 5 days after the expiration date. It also seems like you have an 18 day "grace period" where you can renew at the standard price. (After day 19 there is also a redemption fee.)

Since you're looking to move away from godaddy anyway, do you think it is possible that the customer service people will unlock your domain so you can register the .com with a different registrar?

Also, I know you've mentioned that the old yahoo email address has been memory holed. Is it possible at this point to create a "new" yahoo email account with the old account name? (or email address or whatever you want to call it?)

Just kicking around a few ideas...

Anyway... Happy Monday? โ˜ฎ๏ธ
