I agree that the reason the story did not initially get big is that Black-on-White crime is that (1.) It is far off from the site of major news-media people's attention, and could be counted as a "local story" down in North Carolina; and (2.) Traditionally in recent decades given little attention, the default-setting.

(Strangely, a lot of people vaguely believe Black-on-White crime IS played up in US culture. This reverse-reality belief is a kind of central myth, narrative-policed and maintained for decades. People under whatever-age have grown up hearing it. The Charlie Kirk shooter, Tyler Robinson, b.2003, definitely grew up hearing things like that. So did his father, I'd bet. With around zero Blacks around their corner of Utah, it's possible to believe things like that. The myth of the US media being anti-Black gave fuel to the fire of the various incarnations of the Black Lives Matter movement and its predecessors.)

My idea is this: The Charlotte light-rail murder story was a rare case of such a story going totally mainstream and there ought to be some direct "x-factor" explanation.

The answer for why it eventually went totally mainstream is not to be found with the initial promoters of the Paul Kersey type. It is The Ukraine-refugee identity of the girl. That's the missing puzzle-piece, the reason as to why a White victim would get such across-the-board sympathy and, at least implicitly, to why a Black assailant is so thorough-goingly vilified here. It's not the White identity that caused the breakthrough, it's the Ukraine identity. A reservoir of goodwill was tapped into that caused just enough momentum to spill over the fortress walls.

It seems that every casual news-consumer in the US, across the board, knows the story; and a fair portion even beyond, across the Western world, have seen it. They know that a Black male murdered the White girl, that she is a refugee from Ukraine, and the basic details. It helped that there was the dramatic surveillance-video released, and still-frame images from it circulated so widely.

Paul Kersey, most of his regular writing output, for years, has been stories just like this. But no one ever paid much attention. How did this one story break through whereas the previous one-thousand such stories didn't (anywhere near as much)?

Steve Sailer proposed that an answer: the Vibe Shift away from Wokeness, which has been ongoing for at least one year (most conservatively estimated) and probably more, finally opened up space for regular-centrist MSM coverage to give major and sympathetic coverage. That still doesn't explain why this one, why this girl, why now.

I've seen some Leftists propose that the story was forced into the MSM by the Trump people to cover up for Trump's usual set of odd news and semi-scandals but more than all else to get the Epstein Cover-Up out of the news, which is how they explain all the things Trump is doing (including the latest extrajudicial hits on Venezuelan boats that Fox-News'er Hegseth says "Trust me, but I won't show you evidence: They were drug smugglers").

The best explanation is that the single x-factor, the angle former acolytes of Wokeness had to say "I can work with this," was the Ukraine angle. You almost didn't see the usual "Right-wingers pounce on Charlotte tragedy; ADL warns of rising extremism"-type stories, which is how they might frame anything like this that may have percolated up in the past. I've seen almost nothing but sympathetic coverage, or, at least, straight-news coverage, of the Charlotte light-rail murder.

Regarding that this young lady was Ukrainian, in particular: We've all written about the pro-Ukrainian push all over the media and government since 3 1/2 years ago. I just don't think that the fact that she was Ukrainian is part of the reason for anyone burying this story. The story would have likely been seen on Paul Kersey, AmRen, etc. and millions of x-posts but only seen by those who mostly GET IT already. The reason the story became widespread, after something like a full week, is Donald Trump. He saw it, and he didn't take it well. That's natural, and when Trump takes things personally he will speak out and write tweets, not always in the direction we'd like*. In this case, it's been a great thing.

The Regime Media pretty much had to cover it, as they feel they must counter everything the President does and says. This one is a loss for the Regime Media, whatever way they want to spin it. (It was "You racists always cause people to get riled up when you talk about these small stories, just like back in 1898!" See Steve Sailer, cause he does read the NY Times.) Charlie Kirk's assassination caused and end to this lies-for-truth business.

Yes, Mr. Hail, I do think that no matter how left-wing, young White women's (but also, EVERYBODY'S) survival instinct would guide them to stay farther away and take some of the action you describe.

However, there's the battle between "being a good person" (in their minds) and that instinct, and on occasion that do-gooder feeling overcomes instinct. My example would be a young lady walking down one side of the street and seeing a guy like this coming the other way. Or, just walk across knowing that - well, if this guy's even with it - that he KNOWS she's avoiding him. Young women and some men may feel soooo bad about that. After all, he's probably one of the decent guys. (Chances are, looks notwithstanding, he probably IS, but, well, did you see that video, young lady?)

Better take that slight chance than offend this probably decent black man by purposely and obviously avoiding him.

We gotta quit worrying about "how they feel". I never have, but that's a woman thing. The more they see this video, the more they will get over that not wanting to offend thing. That's a lot of blood. That happened quickly. As you all wrote, even if you are a pistol packing mama and think this way you can both not offend and be safe, nah, there's no way a gun or almost anything would have save you. Yes. The black (soon to be) murderer was already seated when miss Zarutska boarded the train. She then made the (soon to be) fatal decision to sit in the seat (kitty corner) in front of him. There were (I believe) about four minutes from the time she sat down to the time she was stabbed. (Just three times with a small folding pocket knife.) She was passed out soon after (presumably from internal blood loss) and was dead within minutes.

(The video is only a minute and a half long. It is a horrifying yet wonderful example of what can happen when one relaxes around blacks. It should be shown in self defense classes and in conjunction with the talk.)

It is a very sad and sudden demise for Miss Zarutska. ☮️

There is NO WAY that a mentally-normal (i.e., of sane mind) White female of US origin would be in such a position. I mean a White-female of the murdered Ukrainian girl's age and similar on general characteristics BUT of US origin and not foreign origin. And I mean that there is much less chance a US-origin White woman would BE in such a place at such a time, and specifically "no" way that a US-origin White woman would react so obliviously, so unaware of the possibility of imminent danger.

These may be obvious observations. In the coverage I've seen, I've never seen it "spelled out" like that.

Having never encountered any Blacks before age 20, and being from a culture without Blacks, Iryna didn't have any "naturally acquired antibodies." ("Iryna": sounds similar to a word once used to refer to the ancient group from whom Whites today descend in great part, now referred to awkwardly as "Indo-Europeans").

It may sound to some like victim-blaming, but I think the observation, that the victim didn't really-truly know about Diversity Danger, is more of a commentary on White Americans and US history over the past maybe 75 years generally. (It would also shock 19th- and early-20th century Americans, I think, that this system has become normalized in the USA.)

The thought-experiment: Pause time and "rewind" to the moment the girl enters the light-rail train-car. Remove the Ukrainian girl. Insert in her place a White American woman otherwise similar in every way. Press "Play." By instinct, the US-origin White woman would KNOW that the situation =- in that particular train-car, at that particular time, with that particular set of moody and arrogant Blacks listlessly staring into phones, with one of them in particular looking agitated and dangerous -- is a bad, bad spot for a White woman to be alone in.

The US-origin White woman would take measures to get out of, or otherwise remedy, the situation. I'm critical of what you might call US Feminist Leftism as recognizable in our time (across the board; down to the level of the dreaded anti-White-Male HR departments, of course). BUT, the situational awareness to avoid these situations supersedes ideology or ideological-signaling. Even if the US-origin White woman in question is a Kamala voter, or even a true-blue Wokeness-enthusiast (and not just during peak-Wokeness bandwagoning years) the US-origin White woman would still have the instinct and know-how to avoid the worst of it.

The American-origin White woman would have instincts to do things like the following:

- Move to a different train-car.

- Get off the train, if necessary, and pretend to need to speak with a station-attendant about something, if a station-attendant is available.

- Wait till a wacko is gone and get on the next train. (That'd be a Diversity Tax paid in time, not money, in this case.)

- Move to the front of the train-car, near the driver.

- Or, as available, move to any place near where a critical-mass of a better class of person is seen. The simple physical presence of which, in sufficient number, might dissuade most opportunistic Black attackers like the one who killed her. (The murdered girl being in a train-car otherwise entirely Black is an obvious loud-alarm-bell blinking red, but the Ukrainian girl had deaf-ears to it.)

There are all manner of proactive steps to take.

Our hypothetical average US-origin White woman, hypothetically slipped into that train-car in place of the murdered Ukrainian girl, would effectively deal with the situation and avoid trouble, most of the time.

That's true even if the US-origin White woman were a sticker-price buyer of books like "How to be an Anti-Racist" by one of the wash-out Black intellectuals that Steve Sailer used to beat up on, even THEN, the US-origin White woman

One reason pro-Diversity Feminism and Wokeness were able to evolve and permeate through the culture is through this double-standard and hypocrisy.

The White diversity-pusher who lives in an zip-code that's max 1%-Black and max under-10% other Nonwhites total but within a larger metropolitan area that has lots of Diversity. (And all of those several-percent Diversity people are usually being a curated set. Minus, in some cases, those in subsidized so-called Affordable Housing units who've won a housing diversity-lottery, a big trend in deep-Blue areas in the past decade, and, even when well-screened, tend to import habits that degrade the public space and high-trust norms).

A knotted yarn-ball of cultural-pessimism hauntingly slinks around the heart of the American psyche, and has for decades, scaring people off White family-formation. It is this: The entire purpose of many White Americans' lives slowly slipped into being: "Make enough money to avoid Diversity." A Diversity Tax. Mr. Germ Theory has this right, of course. It's one of the many taboos that people seldom name directly.

(Steve Sailer's great powers as a writer and pundit, between about the mid-1990s and at least mid-2010s, and to some extent still today, are that he did "name" these things without being a troll, a wacko, or a self-hyping social-media personality. It's why excellent commentators like Mr. Germ Theory got involved in the Sailer Ship to begin with.)

Returning again to the moment the Ukrainian girl steps onto that train-car. In most cases, nothing happens. But life is always a numbers-game. A daily set of semi-randomized experiences, a bouncing ball which almost-always bounces around within a set of plausible bounds depending on circumstances. You don't know exactly what will happen, but you know the odds and plausibility-ranges. Or you don't. (The Ukrainian girl didn't have this knowledge to the degree she needed.)

Bad interactions, of a kind which can potentially go very wrong up to and including anti-White racial-terrorism and murder, WILL be relatively high in that situation. It's only a matter of time and bad luck before something moderately-to-seriously bad happens to the Ukrainian girl's experiment, repeated enough times. How many such bad situations had she been in, in the three years between arrival on a Biden-government refugee-visa in August 2022, and her murder three years later? I don't know where she was in that three-year span, but if she was in the Charlotte NC area the entire time, she had something north of one-thousand days, and ended up dead.

The chance of "something bad happening" is not just about the low incidence of murder. It's quite a wide range of negative experiences that undermine the value of life, which all can imagine and which I won't take more time to go into here. Bodily harm is included but is not the full story. All manner of bad things have MUCH-higher chances in any US Diversity-environment than if the girl were back in the Metro of Kiev. Or among Whites anywhere on the planet. (Or beyond the planet --- those of you Moon-colonists reading the Peak-Stupidity archives in the year 2055: Can we ask who finally located the Neil Armstrong flag and when? What's the deal with its disappearance? And please don't tell me a faction of you active Moon-colonists agree with the Unz writers who claim the 1969-1973 Moon Landings were a hoax).

The fact of just how dangerous the situation was, well. the girl didn't truly understand or she would've taken active measures to get out of the situation, as I say above.

BUT --- there's one thing that's biggest counter-measure of all. I'll say what it is shortly, if you can't guess already. We all know it. It's something that's undermined US life, in many places for generations. To a degree that it's hardly even thought about by most people, any more than that old children's question of "Why is the sky blue?"

The biggest counter-measure of all, to the threats of Diversity, is this: Do what's necessary to avoid being alone in places anything like that train-car in the first place, if you're White. And that biggest counter-measure of all the kernel of "White Flight." It's meant a considerable re-sorting both intra-regionally and inter-regionally.

The metropolitan area that I'm most familiar with had a long process of "demographic change" involving, first, waves of Blacks moving up from the Deep South, then, later, international Migrants coming in, and, by the latter period, White lower-/working-/lower-middle-class people slowly, steadily, moving out of anything near the core of the region but even simply out of the region entirely. They could've stayed had someone handed them x extra tens-of-thousands of dollars per year, say, but on their own economic power there were priced out and faced the choice: compete for elbow-room with Migrants and Blacks, or leave.

The decisions which, in mid-2022, led to the exit from Ukraine by the mother and children in question (including the then-recently-20-year-old girl now murdered) were not so far off from the decisions millions of Whites have made for decades, and continue to make, in the USA.

There is a big irony there. Everyone who knows the first thing about mid-late 20th-century domestic US history will generally know some degree of this story. "White Flight."

Steve Sailer was one of the few writing as late as the 2010s -- decades after the processes largely played out all over the map -- to say: Hey, this White Flight thing, so-called, it constituted Whites being internal refugees in their own country; it was a major crime against Whites.

The US White Flight process never got framed as Whites as Internal Refugees, of course.

As the ideology of Wokeness gathered steam in the late-20th century and pushed onward, a talmudic argument emerged which was the very opposite of the "Whites as Internal Refugees" Sailer argument. The new redirect became something like default common-knowledge, among respectable liberals, by some point I'm not sure when. It was this: The decades-long process of Whites leaving urban-cores, and/or other areas, was a crime against Blacks!

Interestingly, you never really hear the "Whites Villainously Abandoned Blacks and Villainously Trapped Them In Urban-Core Ghettos" argument pushed TOO hard by people who are old enough to remember the eras in which the core of the process played out, say, anyone with meaningful memory of the decade of the 1960s and some of the "race riots." Among those you'd hear in more-recent times and who used this talmudic logical-gymnastic in good faith, they are almost necessarily younger (either that, or hard-core ideologues, probably a lot more often without children than with children).

When it WAS happening, people understood what was going on: the riots; the sharp increases in crime; the undermining of standards in schools; the real-seeming prospect of the State forcing "busing" and putting Ghetto-Blacks from far off on the other side of town alongside your White children; the Black-nationalistic agitation; the regularization of intimidation against Whites (which led to the brief popularity of such figures as the ethnonationalist George Lincoln Rockwell, before White Flight undermined the possibility of the kind of White Push-Back that seemed plausible at the time, and which energies propelled George Wallace campaigns and, tacitly, the Nixon campaigns).

(By the way, often shoehorned in is that White Flight, the mid-late-20th-century process, was also a crime against Holy Migrants. It doesn't quite work, because generally the early chains of them were only then engaged in their sacred right to relocate within the USA, and had no pretense to being established communities in any way. Holy Migrants never fit the bill, quite well enough, as victims. By, say, the 1980s, many of Migrants had entered into settlement-patterns well outside urban-cores. By the early-21st century, a very broad-based degradation of standards was well underway in far more places than the old "inner cities." Trump, being soon to turn age 80, in many ways shows his age when he makes off-hand comments about "inner cities" that seem lifted from the 1960s-1990s.)

Of course one reason why the Ukrainian-girl-murdered-by-a-Black story broke through to sympathetic national coverage, and even international coverage, was that she was a Ukrainian and not an American. The other big argument would be the much-talked-about Vibe Shift underway starting around 2023 and picking up in 2024, capping off with Kamala losing the November 2024 election.

The levels of sympathy, outcry, and attention for the murdered Ukrainian girl would've been unlikely-to-impossible for a comparable racial-crime situation for decades, I think. But after 3.5 years of the Russia-Ukraine War, there remains considerably good-will towards Ukraine. Ukrainians naturally get boosts in sympathy-points, which would tend not to be available had the same girl instead had 16 of 16 great-great-grandparents born as White-Christians in the USA.

To return to the first point: Its tacit US cultural knowledge, even if stated directly by very few, that Blacks tolerate degrees of disorder and violence that Whites don't. This is unspoken implicit common knowledge among all White Americans.

If you ever observe White women in Big-Blue metropolitan areas, the usual feminine double-standard is at work. They'll say they really believe in tenets of Wokeness. But for themselves and their own bodily safety, their actions show they don't. They will say how bad White men are, how bad heterosexual family-norms are/ They will especially say so in conversation wherein they think they can guilt-trip someone or score groupthink-based social points by such sloganeering. ("Virtue signaling.") And they'll say how great-cute-cuddly Migrants are, and things like that.

Standards of truth and rigor tend to go into abeyance in women's talk. They want to get along. It's pleasant when it works. Most of what drives Wokeness is probably not hardcore ideologues but women who want to get along, and men who don't want to offend such women. The women I refer to will vote D but act in ways opposed to what the Big Blue-team spokesmen are saying, and a Wokeness-believing White woman would much-less likely have been in the position of that murdered Ukrainian girl (to repeat my point again).

This remained true even during the peak-Wokeness era, although maybe slightly less so than before. By 2023 any significant alteration of behavior -- of the kind like on that train-car, and any possible tendency towards obliviousness while being surrounded by sulky Blacks. including one who was making angry threats and muttering to himself about the evils of Whites -- any tendency to suppress instincts and ho with the flow that you may have seen in the early 2020s had, I think, begun to snap back to normal and has long since reached that stage. But not for everyone. Not for the Ukrainian girl, who was not a part of US culture.

The Black attacker didn't kill her for being Ukrainian, but for being White. The other Blacks in the train-car didn't ignore her and fail to intervene or help in any way because she was Ukrainian.

But the wider media paid attention because she WAS Ukrainian.

For reasons that were not necessarily obvious or historically absolutely predetermined, pro-Ukraine views became associated with the wider set of Blue-Team beliefs. This dented the taboo against discussing Black Crime and Black-on-White crime.

The Ukrainian girl herself was fundamentally clueless about the dangers she was in. She realized it only at that screen-captured final moment she looked up, terrified, blood flowing out of her neck. The Black assailant briefly celebrated and skulked away, dripping blood from the knife. The Blacks elsewhere in the train-car ignored the girl. She realized her mistake.

There is no Reset button to start over. Not at that stage. The surveillance-video shows that the girl collapsed soon, mere moments, after that final, singular, upward look of terror. The moment of clarity and realization. And the end.

Adam, it's been a long time for me too. Northern, Southern, or Expressway, you ain't getting anywhere in a hurry. That's been the case for at least 1/2 a century.

AI says "Recent construction projects on the Long Island Expressway include a $27 million upgrade to Exit 53, which improved access to shopping and recreation, and the reconstruction of various exits to enhance traffic flow. These projects aim to modernize the roadway and reduce congestion for drivers..." They shoulda done it back in '71 - woulda cost only 2 million dollahs.

I think I've seen all I need to about the poor Iryna Zarutska. It didn't help that she was fixated on her phone. Does anyone know (from video, not the 2 of them) who sat down there first? I agree that even if carrying, you wouldn't have a chance if you were sitting right in front of the guy. Best not to do that. Paul Kersey knew where to sit, with his gun under his NY Post, but then, who reads newspapers. (That was in the "Death Wish" first movie.)

I played it for Mrs. Smith a couple of hours before Charlie was shot in the neck. (Because she hadn't sen it yet.) We occasionally talk about carrying when we go certain places but usually decide that it is just better that we don't go places where we feel like we should be carrying. (There really aren't many of these places in our lives anyway. We live in a super comfy place.) In Miss Zarutska's situation, even if someone on the train were carrying and shot her assailant, it still would have been too late for her. It happened so fast. Poor girl didn't know to sit somewhere else.

Sadly, no one had the talk with her.

Speaking of expressways, the hullabaloo a few years back was that the NY’s system of expressways from the City to Long Island was racist because all of its bridges over the expressways were too low to let the denizens from the city take busses to the beaches of Long Island.
