Important Anniversary missed

This is the one we mentioned in the last post.

Firstly, Peak Stupidity has a mutually beneficial deal with Alcoholics Anonymous - we don't compete with them with any new 12-step programs, and they don't criticize our unorthodox support for the sobriety of George Floyd. He's been sober for 1,828 days straight.* "My name was George Floyd, and if alcoholism were the worst thing I've done... "

From UR commenter Mike Tre came the following, as Mr. Tre noted that George Floyd is probably looking better now:

BEFORE:

AFTER:

George Floyd died of a drug overdose 5 years ago the day before yesterday. Yeah, so what...

Someone else noted that the BLM and antifa crowd really aren't going to remember George Floyd. He was, after all is said and done, just a worthless, violent Black! reprobate. No, they want us to remember the power they had over the cucks of this nation and around the world for a whole summer and more 5 years ago.

A quick Peak Stupidity survey follows. It'll only take a minute of your time, I swear... except for the part about listening to some great music.

Who will I most likely remember 10 years from now?

[ ] George Floyd, ex-resident of Minneapolis, Minnesota

[ ] Floyd Lawson, ex-resident barber of Mayberry, N. Carolina

[ ] Pink Floyd, ex-rock band from England.

To get you started pondering the question:

Floyd Lawson - last cut Andy Taylor's hair 58 years ago this past April:

Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here from 50 years ago, written by David Gilmour and Roger Waters:

PS: Going completely off this subject, I am getting worried about Mr. Hail. His last post on his site was on April 4th, His last comment thereunder was on April 10th and his last one on The Unz Review was in mid-April too. I haven't checked, but it's likely been that long here. I'll write him a message on his blog. We hope he's OK and just busy.

* Don't forget that there was 1 leap year in there, '24.

PS: Good evening, Jim,

Jaguar made some really pretty cars. The XKE is one of the prettiest, most iconic cars ever. Great lines, like you say. It's too bad that so many of them ended up in the bone yard or sitting in someone's yard for years because they were so notoriously unreliable. (A Jaguar? You need a whole other car if you want to go somewhere.)

Fortunately, there are people making LS swap kits for many of these cars so they can be resurrected.

Cheers! ☮️

PS:
Thanks for the Jaguar video, Adam. I admit to being a closet XJS fan - at least with regards to their looks - and have been ever since they came out when I was a kid. Although I'm kind of an originality oriented guy, I know how tiresome "purists" can be, and I have vowed to never be like that, so I appreciate all the time, thought, effort and money that the young man devoted to putting an LS in his really cool car.

Heck, I remember all those years that Jaguar purists put down XJS coupes even when they HAD the original engines. Why? Because the XJS wasn't an XKE. Some people denigrated the car for years because it wasn't on par visually with it's iconic predecessor. I really like the way it looks, personally. Great body lines. Some years the headlights looked better than other years, but they all looked great, in my opinion.

PS: Hey Achmed,

Me again. I just learned that not only do Tesla drive units have oil and filters that need servicing, but they also have coolant to keep them cool. When the seals fail the coolant can leak into the drive unit and damage it.

Yes. This video...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o5YhUNX-F-M

is an April Fools' Day video. (Much satire like the wiper arm breaks and the piston return springs videos.) But the ICE swap into that Tesla is real. So too are the looks on some of faces of the receptionists and technicians in the shops he visits when he asks about an oil change. I there are many EV owners who don't know about these sorts of gearbox and/or drive unit oil changes because of the way these vehicles were marketed.

𝐼 𝑛𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑑 𝑦𝑜𝑢 𝑡𝑜𝑙𝑑 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒𝑜𝑛𝑒 𝑜𝑛 𝑇𝑈𝑅 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑖𝑙 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑒𝑠, 𝑠𝑜 𝐼 𝑑𝑖𝑑𝑛'𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑘 𝑦𝑜𝑢'𝑑 𝑏𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑚𝑖𝑠𝑐ℎ𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑜𝑢𝑠 𝑡𝑜 𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑑 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑚 𝑡𝑜 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑓𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑜𝑛𝑒𝑠 𝑓𝑟𝑜𝑚 𝐴𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑙 𝐹𝑜𝑜𝑙𝑠 𝑑𝑎𝑦.

I linked to both videos but the April Fools' Day video is clearly marked as such. The Jaguar I-PACE oil and filter info is just screenshots from google. I wouldn't trust it to be precise, but it looks legit enough that there are probably oil and filter changes for those EVs too.

Drivetrain and Powertrain Thermal Analyses of a Tesla Model 3 Electric Vehicle...

The oil is cleaner because it is a closed system and there are no combustion byproducts. However, the temperature of the gears in the drive unit (80°C) and the stator within the motor (380°C) plus the wear to the metal parts necessitates oil and filter changes. You don't want to leave those metal particles in the drive unit.

I'm old school. I don't believe in lifetime fluids.
As one of those commenters in the link above asked...

PS: OK, Adam, that's a different thing, oil for some of the drivetrain parts. That other one, with the guy with a case of oil and that filter with an electronic circuit board glued on one end, that was the fake one... right? (I sure hope.)

I noted you told someone on TUR about the oil changes, so I didn't think you'd be that mischievous to send them to the fake ones from April Fools day.

Your stuff's in Barnwell. I hope it doesn't come to you irradiated. (Savannah River bomb plant and all.) Your ratchets seem to be getting a nice tour of the country, the South at least.

PS: Good evening, Mr. Moderator!

So... I was reading through the comments under Hail's latest post (Alfred Eckes on the Smoot–Hawley Tariff of 1930 and its long-lasting civic mythology) when I came across your comment...

𝐽𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑑𝑜𝑛’𝑡 𝑏𝑒𝑙𝑖𝑒𝑣𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑣𝑖𝑑𝑒𝑜𝑠 ℎ𝑒 𝑗𝑢𝑠𝑡 𝑔𝑎𝑣𝑒 𝑡𝑜 𝑢𝑠 𝑜𝑛 𝑟𝑒𝑝𝑙𝑎𝑐𝑖𝑛𝑔 “𝑝𝑖𝑠𝑡𝑜𝑛 𝑟𝑒𝑡𝑢𝑟𝑛 𝑠𝑝𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔𝑠” 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑔𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑜𝑖𝑙 𝑖𝑛 𝑦𝑜𝑢𝑟 𝑇𝑒𝑠𝑙𝑎!

Not sure if I mentioned this after Chris' Tesla Oil Change video (posted on April 1st) but Tesla drive units do indeed require an oil and filter change...

(Not a joke. Not satire.)

And, just in case anyone would like to know how to properly fix a broken Jaguar...
(Because there are oh so many of them...)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=79Dh5cqJYPE

Some Jaguars are really sharp looking cars. And other than the engines and transmissions (and some of the other stuff) they're not all hopeless. Once you swap a Chevy LS motor and a 4L60E tranny into them they often do become viable cars.

E. H. Hail Update!
https://xcancel.com/Hail__To_You/status/1926275710437437547#m

I checked his twitter for any activity and found that previously linked tweet from May 24, 2025. Other than that his twitter seems quiet for about the last 6 weeks.

https://xcancel.com/Hail__To_You/with_replies

If we don't hear from him in a few days I'll send him a proper email.

Still waiting on my replacement ratchet...
https://tools.usps.com/go/TrackConfirmAction?qtc_tLabels1=9400150206219000464375

Jacksonville sent it back to Atlanta in a reasonable time but then Atlanta sent it on to Barnwell, SC. Maybe next week.(?)

I also found these...
https://www.ebay.com/itm/187198292591
https://www.ebay.com/itm/166887702258

I'm probably going to buy them because, apparently, I'm two rotary ratchets short of happiness. Or to paraphrase Hunter Thompson...

It's not that I need these two ratchets, but once you get locked into a serious ratchet collection, the tendency is to push it as far as you can. (Or something like that.)

That's about it here. I hope you and all our peakstupidity friends are doing well.

Happy Wednesday! ☮️

PS: Good morning, Jim. I hadn't thought about the lack of Emmett Till news. Is it, though, just because Steve Sailer has been writing about different stuff and hasn't perused the NY Times Till section so much lately? I don't know. I don't read the latter, but I have been at least reading parts of (for paywalled ones) most of Mr. Sailer's stuff. I haven't seen any current news about Emmett, even just a quick piece to remind us that he's still dead.

I guess we'll see what happens on August 28th, as for as that goes.

Yahoo brings up a sore spot now, as I've probably lost 3 email accounts, one of which goes back to 1996. It'd have been fun to look back at some of the older mails. Anyway, when logging out, I'd see what they think is news. (Also, I'd search for "peak stupidity" there, but now I'm so pissed at them.)

I hope it's as you say as the situation for Commies and hippies in 1978, but, as with the Commies, they're just laying low for a while. I don't think they've given up.

PS: Good morning, Adam. I saw your Floyd sobriety coin (on the white background) in the UR comments. Congrats to him.

Mr. Hail's breaks, IIRC, used to be 2 weeks to a month max. I left him a message on his site.

PS:
"Someone else noted that the BLM and antifa crowd really aren't going to remember George Floyd."

And is it just me, or have the woke also been forgetting about Emmett Till as of late? It's only been 70 years since he died, you know. (Yet it seems like yesterday....)

I'm actually sincere about that question. I'm so disconnected from the media that I honestly don't know how much presence Emmett Luther Till Jr. has in 2025 world. My yahoo propaganda feed is the only left wing outlet I see, and I haven't seen it mentioned there (but I haven't been looking.) August 28th will be the actual 70th anniversary, so there might be a revival of sorts at that point.

Whatever the answer is, I'm guessing the woke don't want to remind us of just how woke they are. They're about as popular among the general public today as hippies and communists were in 1978. On the other hand, a good number of them would love to see another reason to riot under Trump's watch. Hard to know what they're thinking/feeling.

PS: Good evening, Achmed!

So... I was going to do this the other day (because I couldn't find one of these anywhere) but I got a bit lazy about it and let it slide. (Because I played too much of the paperclip game.) Your post reminded me just how important this anniversary is so I busted out gimp and did my thing...

I originally did it with the 𝐁𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐤! background but then I realized that unz comments are (generally) on a White page.

I too have been getting worried about Mr. Hail. (I started wondering about a week ago.) I know he takes breaks from the interwebs from time to time but this hiatus seems to have gone on a little too long. I hope he's alright.

Cheers! ☮️
