Peak Stupidity's 3,000th post!

I can't take credit for the meme this time, as much as I'd like to. I came upon this one fortuitously a few months back.

Yep, since our first post on November 28th '16, we've averaged 1,09 posts per day over those 2742 days. (That's 34 days in '16, 6 full years + 1 full leap year, and 152 days this leap year as of today.) Not counting Sundays, that's about 1 1/4 posts daily.

As much as Peak Stupidity management pushes us hard to make the goals of our 5 year plans (and New Deals), quantity is not our biggest goal*. The posts have gotten longer, but that's not always a good thing. I want to get away from the daily news again and concentrate on the creme de la stupid.

Then too, as evil as this world is getting, I kind of wish I'd started blogging on PeakEvil.com. (Last I checked, the URL is available.) Our staff has not modeled this Evil - lots of physical spiritual processes are involved - so we couldn't even come up with an accurate graph for the banner.** The Book of Revelation has a 7-year time-line, so we could use the same old engineering paper, at least.

Additionally, our technical staff, a guy named Josh in Bombay, have resigned to spend more time with their families, after having used up their sick time bank due to "Long Covid". (Honestly, I have speculated that what it was is that Josh didn't really like our remarks and use of special characters for his โ€ขnicity.)

I want to thank all the readers and most especially those who write in, usually in support of our writing. The site is here for enjoyment by both parties. Peak Stupidity's rise to the Fortune 500 is still in the future. These would be most welcome, had we a tip jar here. We don't have a body like AOC so we don't expect tips, or anything further, to be put in.

I wish the World could be less stupid again, even with the loss of business this would entail. We keep holding on, to yesterday...

Talk about some obscure music, Holding on to Yesterday from the band Ambrosia is some of that. I like the sound of this 49 y/o song from this band out of Los Angeles (San Pedro), California.

David Pack - lead vocal, guitar
Christopher North - organ, pianos, backing vocal
Joe Puerta - bass, backing vocal
Burleigh Drummond - drums, backing vocal
Daniel Kobialka - violin

PS: Regarding the point here, often hard to get back to, I haven't checked out the site visit/view/etc. stats in quite a while. I'll present some numbers at 8 years in.

* We do want readers to keep checking in daily, so we try to avoid big gaps of 3 days or more.

PS: Thanks to all who have commented on their appreciation of this site. Without comments, I don't know for sure if anybody does. (Yeah, I can look at the stats, but it's not the same.)

PS It's sites like yours that make the internet worth visiting. Ever since the outbreak of the latest Israeli skirmishes the world has become even stupider. And I'm speaking specifically of Israel-worshipping "conservatives." What is wrong with these people?

PS

I'm not sure there is a hard and fast definition for "Yacht Rock", and I'm certainly no expert, but I know it when I hear it. It's the kind of music that you'd expect to hear played at a marina party in 1977-1980.

I could name some examples: Christopher Cross ("Sailing", obviously), Robbie Dupree ("Steal Away"), Ambrosia, maybe some Hall & Oates, some Little River Band.

Soft rock, a little jazzy maybe, but with a smaller sound - not big stadium rock anthem music (like Journey or Foreigner).

It's a tireless job, but someone has to chronicle the stupidity. Happy 3000th!

Mr. Alarmist...

I agree with Mr. Hail. Enquiring minds and such.

PS: Alarmist, I got some grief from unz/iSteve commenters based on my comment that "her butt looks big in that dress". It did. I think they were right in hind sight (seriously, pun not intended till this moment) - or hind site? - because she looks very good in blue jeans. Were she a bartender or married woman with kids in a nice part of Brooklyn - or is it the Bronx - and not involved in politics, I'd have no hard feelings about that lady.

I didn't know you were still reading here, Radical Center. Thanks!

PS: No, I didn't write anything special (a little under) 3 years ago, at post 2,000. I did write a lot more about South Africa, starting off from an article by long-gone ex-pat Michael Witkin who visited after 10 years (but 47 years - at that point - after he'd originally left). "South Africa at War with Itself" was his long article that I started off with in an 8-part series "Cry the Deconstructed Country". See:

I see you wrote comments under them, Mr. Hail, so I'm just putting these links in for others. Yes, more attention ought to be paid to the place. I also don't know much about the election, but that formerly 1st-World nation seems like a lost cause now. I wish the White people well in getting out. Most importantly for us, there is a lesson to be learned that we are not learning yet. (I write "we" in the very general sense.)

What is your Substack URL?

I havenโ€™t seen many full-length shots of her, but I canโ€™t say Iโ€™d be tempted to tip her even behind the bar.

In a world full of increasing stupidity, an average of 1.09 posts per day seems a bit light. Then again, Iโ€™ve only done two or three posts on my substack in two or three years (Iโ€™ve been so uninspired Iโ€™ve lost track of when I started it, so who am I to cast stones?).

PS

I notice that Peak-Stupidity #2000 has no milestone-celebration, just comments about South Africa:

https://peakstupidity.com/index.php?post=2000

By the way, --- given that South Africa has, for years, been teetering near "failed state" status, it's worth paying far more attention than we do. The attention should exceed the level of "memes" or "gotchas."

SA's recent election is as good an opportunity as any. But I see surprisingly little interest.

Steve Sailer has mentioned South Africa only two or three times in the past year. Only one of those had anything to do with the current situation, and he just made light of it "NYT: At least 'Kill the Boer' isn't 'Try That in a Small Town'..." (Aug. 2023).

PS

"Life Beyond LA" is a pretty good song too:

Still, I think that "Biggest Part of Me" is thier best, a classic of the Yacht Rock era.

And congratualations on the milestone.
