It's not a thing here on Peak Stupidity to feature college Commencement speeches, one after another. We've sat through a number of them long ago. However the short speech by Harrison Butker at Benedictine College (in Atkinson, Kansas, ~ 50 miles up the Missouri River from Kansas City) has made a few waves and is worth a mention here.
We mentioned Super bowl winning KS Chiefs kicker* Harrison Butker in our previous post facetiously as a a guy who'd be a great replacement for Commie so-called-Pope Francis. I knew he was a strong Catholic from this post about him on Ann Barnhardt's site, but after watching his widely praised/widely criticized 20 minute speech yesterday, well, I take back my facetiousness right now.
Here's the speech, with the theme Staying in Your Lane:
I'd read about what was supposedly wrong with Mr. Butker's speech before watching it. Lots of people were not happy, not meaning the graduates of Benedictine College here, mind you, but lots of people. The Establishment does not like it when well-respected people don't respect the Narratives. At just before 12 minutes in, Mr. Butker spoke to the women graduates in particular for a couple of minutes. What he said would have been non-controversial a century ago. Had he said this a half-century ago, I suppose he'd have been a Male Chauvinist Pig to some, but I don't think anyone would have been aghast at the speech. Now, well, you can't just tell women the honest truth, that they'll probably be happier in life doing what they were made for. YOU! CAN'T! DO! THAT! That is, even if they agree with you.
As for those (just going by tweets displayed in disdain by Ann Barnhardt) who are upset at Harrison Butker's not going along with the in-your-face humiliation-based BLT-G genderbender nonsense, I found it hard to believe they'd had a problem here. From my listen, I only recall the one joke about pride in family not being what the Bible meant by that sin of "Pride", and that he, Butzker, wasn't referring to Pride Day. Man, are these people sensitive! If you can't take a joke... I mean ... well, no, they can't. Communists never could take a joke as I recall.
Supposedly, from headlines here or there, yahoo and such, the deal is that this speech included some disparagement of one Taylor Swift, a modern singer of great fame with a repertoire consisting of no particular music that I have knowingly heard. I did a search for both "Taylor" and "Swift" over the transcript of this talk, but "No matches". I guess I am really and truly out of the loop... doesn't bother me a bit.
I'm not a hardcore or any kind of Catholic, but that was a reasonably inspirational Commencement address. Furthermore, and more importantly, that was a very nice F.U. to the Establishment by Mr. Harrison Butker.** Guys like this ought to be the Popes. He's from "The Americas" and all, so why not?
* Peak Stupidity is onto the whole Bread & Circuses thing, so it wasn't till reading yesterday that I knew who the guy was, other than that he is a real Conservative who has pissed off many people being one.
** Mr. Harrison does have that F.U. money, in fact, so this was not so courageous an act as it would have been for some low level wage-slave. Why the latter would be making the speech then, is another question ...

PS: "It's sort of like making cars too computerized or otherwise difficult to work on yourself. When you fix your own car the state doesn't get a cut of your labor. But if you have to take your car to a licensed mechanic, the state gets a cut of that guy's labor (styled โincomeโ).
Under this business model, you work your job (and lose a portion of your labor to the state) so you can make enough money to take the car to the mechanic (who also loses a portion of his labor to the state). The only winner in this scenario is the state. Everyone else loses."
Good take on the matter. Your 2nd paragraph was not part of it, but I had a post in my head about this. It's important for those who want to control us better that we can't be self-reliant DIYs, as Americans used to be in spades, and you still are obviously.
I had in my head more about taking care of our houses and yards. Maybe it's just where I live, but people seem to be shopping that out more. I'm a little tempted myself when it comes to the massive amount of leaves from one certain tree that everyone tells me to take down. Now, on this score, I do understand "division of labor". It makes sense to pay guys - I can still get White! Americans - to do what they do best. They are also small businessmen, so supporting them is something that would make me feel good. OTOH, I've only had other people do a handful of jobs - one big one being the roof - in many, many years.
Your 2nd paragraph on the arranged treadmill is a very good point too.

PS: Me again...
โI do really like that ctrl-f capability - only thing better, IMO, with an electronic version.โ
Ctrl-f is certainly nice. There are a couple other benefits to the digi-copies. One benefit is the ease of sharing on the interwebs. It is pretty nice being able to share things online. We would otherwise have to mail copies of these things to each other or each of us would have to go out and buy a copy. The other benefit of digital books is storage space. Dieter was just talking about how he needs more storage space for his books. (I'm totally not surprised by this.) If I were to try to store all my books in physical form I would need a warehouse.
It's the same with music. I have a music folder with more than a half a million songs in it. (Many thousands of albums.) Could you imagine how much space that would take up on CDs? (If each CD had an average of 15 songs on it we would be talking about 33,000 CDs that I would have to store.)
They don't really replace a hard copy, but digital books sure are nice in their own way.

PS: Good afternoon, Achmed!
โOne thing about Feminism besides it being just another method of destruction of the American / Western culture it that, yes, for the Big Biz Crony Capitalism program, getting those women into machine-cog jobs helps keep wages down and everyone on board with Big Biz edicts as they worry about their paychecks, since most of them live off them one by one ...โ
Totally agree. It also has the added benefit (for the people of โgovernmentโ that is) of herding these women into J O B jobs that withhold taxes thereby giving the parasites working for the state a cut of these women's labor. And if these women have to pay for child support so they can work at their J O B jobs, all the merrier as the people who work at the daycare center also pay taxes to mommygov.

PS: I saw some of these things, such as the electronic version of "Noticing", on the VDare site. Mr. Sailer is promoting the book and himself HARD right now. I suppose he needs to get into the limelight while he has this chance. It's good for society if he does, not matter how much it's a bit too much for readers.
Regarding paper v plastic, errr electrons, I'm with you on that* - I have the 3 soft back copies. I've got pencil notes - just a few - in one of them, but it gets complicated as one has been with me for traveling and another I read at home. As for the 3rd, I have a friend in town who is not sure he likes this sort of reading, but I hope to convince him he WILL. (He's not at all on the Woke side, so it's not that.)
* Were the electronic edition half the price, I might reconsider. I do really like that ctrl-f capability - only thing better, IMO, with an electronic version.

PS: "I didn't hear anything objectionable, but I guess I have bigger things to worry about."
Same here, Adam. However, it was the headlines here and there about how controversial or objectionable, or GREAT (depending on WHOSE headlines) that got me to watch the speech finally. (That was on GP, but I am glad I found it on youtube - didn't need your help this one time.)
"I did appreciate his line about not being able to teach about who killed Christ in universities and schools, even if the โlanding you in jailโ part was technically incorrect... "
True, about that last part, and I'd heard this about first time I read about this atrocious Bill (I read that it had been passed by the House, but I take it the Senate would too - Bai Dien would be caught between a rock and a hard place when it comes to signing it, if he even knows what he's signing...). However, I see this law as being the biggest crack in Amendment I, as far as speech goes. I understand that Gov't's corporate minions enforce the restrictions they (both of them) want to, but this is right out there in the open - "can't say this." Was it all planned out - get the Jewish left on board with this by having the massive rallies for Hamas and all?

More outrage over a commencement speech, eh? I didn't hear anything objectionable, but I guess I have bigger things to worry about. (Maybe I'm just all out of outrage? or, Perhaps I'm saving my outrage for when it matters?)
I had to read the comments under an article in the New York Post to fully understand what the Covfefe was about.
Apparently, it is wrong and horrible to express the idea that some women should forego careerism for motherhood because motherhood and being a (gasp!) homemaker are more important than being a replaceable cog in a bullshit corporate job.
Mr. Butker also said some things that the easily offended ๐๐๐๐ were... Transphobic. (Double+ Wrongthink!)
I did appreciate his line about not being able to teach about who killed Christ in universities and schools, even if the โlanding you in jailโ part was technically incorrect...
โCongress just passed a bill where stating something as basic as the biblical teaching of who killed Jesus could land you in jail.โ
I wonder if he'll lose his job for criticizing our earthly masters.(?)

โBig news for digital book fans and for overseas potential readers daunted by the high cost and long lag times of shipping the paperback edition of my anthology Noticing abroad: you can now buy the Kindle version from Amazon with instant download for the same price as the paperback $29.95.โ
โOther digital formats will follow.โ
(Paging Dr. Hail. ๐)
At $29.95 I'd rather have the paperback. I see no point in paying the same price for a digital copy as one would pay for a tangible, hold it in your hand and/or read it when the power goes out, copy.
Once the digi-copies start making the rounds it is only a matter of time before we can add it to the Book Club library.

PS He can't be Pope, silly. His children are legitimate.
I may have told this story here or in unz.com comments. I stuffed everything I could into a Fox Body Ford Mustang rent-a-car to bring it 500 miles. That was all I owned, and I stuffed that car. The record albums were in one packed milk crate. I had 4 that wouldn't fit. I mean, even elsewhere in the car, I didn't see where I could stuff them without likely breaking them or warping them to the point of ruin.
Because the used records store guy gave me the insulting low ball quote of a quarter a piece, I left these 4 on the grass median of this city street, for someone else's use. That's not the sad thing. The sad thing was that one of those 4 albums was KISS "Destroyer" ... I mean, while Leo Sayer's "Greatest Hits" was in the milk crate. A travesty, I tell you!!
