Peak Stupidity will end due to West Virginia Senator Joe Manchin

I mean, I guess so, right? We may be kind of crude here sometimes, but I'd still consider us part of Humanity. Yahoo says:

You Deniers! You blew it up! Damn you! Damn you all to your gas-guzzling Chevy Tahoes!*

Single-handedly! Joe Manchin, you're my hero! I hate to see it all end like this, but it beats another few decades of hearing from Al Gore and Greta Thunberg.

So... that's it then ... no use fighting the Climate Crisis™ now, since Senator Manchin blew up our last defense, that piece of legislation.

Still, I've got a question about that Yahoo headline: What's it gonna be, Democrat Party, are you gonna seeth or are you gonna be stunned?

"First we're gonna seeth, and then we're gonna be stunned!"

Yes, big Fast Times at Ridgemont High fan here. It's the scene with Sean Penn and Forest Whitaker (before he got on the Crying Game), after Sean Penn has wrecked Forest's brother's Camaro:

Jefferson's Brother: My brother's gonna kill us! He's gonna kill us! He's gonna kill you, and he's gonna kill me. He's gonna kill us!

Jeff Spicoli: Hey man, just be glad I had fast reflexes!

Jefferson's Brother: My brother's gonna shit!

Jeff Spicoli: Make up your mind, dude. Is he gonna shit or is he gonna kill us?

Jefferson's Brother: First he's gonna shit, then he's gonna kill us!
Should I be taking this thing more seriously? I mean, it's a news headline, right there on the Yahoo site. Why even bother paying the Peak Stupidity hosting fees anymore if it's gonna end like this ...

* I tell you what - we're getting a lot of use out of that Charlton Heston quote from the end of Planet of the Apes.

PS: Adam Smith, under the subsequent post to this, has jogged my memory on my statement about the "rules lady in the Senate". That would be Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough. She is not a Senator herself. Here is the important rule that was referencing, per wiki:

"In September 2021, she ruled against allowing a pathway to legalization for millions of immigrants to be included in the Democrats' $3.5 trillion reconciliation bill, stating that "changing the law to clear the way to (Legal Permanent Resident) status is tremendous and enduring policy change that dwarfs its budgetary impact."

PS: Mr. Smith, let me put it this way: I think that this war and "Putin Bad! / support the Ukraine!" has been made into the biggest story of '22 is the distraction. I wouldn't put what you mention past the WEF folks. The Lyin' Press doesn't cover that idea of course. They want us to rally against the evil Russians based on "spreading Globohomo, errr, Democracy around the world".

Zerohedge has been out in front for years in reporting on how the US tried so hard to prevent any circumventing of the almighty US PetroDollar. The Germans are getting screwed, yes, or screwing themselves, but then didn't the Commie Merkel start this with her no-nukes deal for the last decade or half decade? That they will be doing more heating with wood is hilarious.

We do it at home, but at some point I'd like to get an efficient wood stove, not just the fireplace. I gotta say, if everyone in the neighborhood burned wood like me and one guy around the corner, it would look closer to a Chinese city.

PS: Alarmist and Mr. Smith: I really didn't pay attention to the vaccine/autism connection too much. I remember libertarian types discussing this even 20 years back. It's not that I think it's bunk - I just never got around to reading about it till now, with your substack link.

I gotta admit, since you made a point of it, Alarmist, after checking bing images, I now see Jenny McCarthy at least WAS hot in a bikini. I had never heard of her either. Thanks for the link to the substack vaccine article, Adam. I look forward to more Daily Stupid headlines.

Mr. Hail, I mentioned the monkeypox to a colleague just today, only because I've seen more people masking it up lately. "WTH? Monkeypox", I asked him. He just laughed, mostly because of the word "monkeypox" itself, which indeed provokes laughter. They will probably need a more technical term, maybe with a Greek lettered variant, to get any kind of new panicfest at all started.

PS: Just catching up.

Mr. Smith, I read your race card site links. I'm thinking of a good one to put up on the site. She says she takes all comers as in even those who are not of her opinion. I guess I'd like to test that and have some fun.

Mr. Hail, thank you for the short history of the Climate Crisis™, aka, Global Climate Disruption (my terminology), aka, Climate Change, aka Global Warming, aka Global Cooling. I really did think that this stupidity was being left behind during the midst of the Kung Flu PanicFest. Nope, not so fast, indeed... Yes, perhaps in a different decade Greta would not have been so hystericalized (?). However, go back to the 1970s or '80s, and think if she would not have been part of the unilateral disarmament/no nukes crowd. What stunts she could have pulled!

You’re not alone in wondering who the real target of the US assault on Russia might be:

“ “Washington and London have drawn ´useful European idiots´ into an economic war against Russia ” – said former Russian president Dmitry Medvedev – adding that “the onset of a systemic crisis in the Eurozone is beginning to come true.” He added that Anglo-Saxons on both sides of the Atlantic conned EU members “like a couple of shell-game tricksters” by drawing them into an unwarranted economic war against Moscow which is actually an Anglo-Saxon project, not theirs. Paraphrasing James Carville, “it´s the Anglo-Saxons, stupid”. The US-UK cabal does not want Europe and Russia to trade, do business, relate, or grow together in any way, shape, or form. So they designed, built and forced upon Europe the current John Bolton-Ukraine war which had plan A (now failed) with Russia as target and plan B as substitute with Europe itself as the intended victim coming next. ”

Source: http://thesaker.is/rape-europe-is-next-stupid/

“Consider Germany, “the engine of Europe“. It stands on one thing – the reputation of German engineering and quality – Mercedes/Miele/Bosch, they may cost more but they’re cheaper in the long run because they’re so well made. No Western country manufactures much these days but Germany still does. In fact, only South Korea and China have a bigger share of their economies in manufacturing. (America, the colossus of former times, is half Germany!) But manufacturing needs energy. German energy comes from Russia – not all of it – about 20%. But coal is 40% and nuclear 10% and they have to reduce these because Greta wants them to which means they need more gas which is cheaper and “cleaner” and which mostly comes from Russia which requires another pipeline to be built. But then they decide that Ukraine is The Big Moral Issue and close the pipeline and step up coal which they’re going to get rid of altogether in 2030 thanks to more wind energy. And what about the nukes? Unicorn wings flapping. Hard to be green and hate Russia too.”

PS: Good evening, Gentlemen,

This comment is actually about the Global Climate Crisis™...

The largest European bank now predicts that a growing number of German households will be using firewood for heating. Maybe allowing a petulant Scandinavian teenager to set the country's energy policy was not the brightest idea after all.

https://www.zerohedge.com/markets/deutsche-bank-now-modeling-german-households-chopping-wood-keep-warm-winter

https://www.zerohedge.com/energy/gazprom-casts-doubt-reopening-nord-stream-even-canada-grants-sanctions-waiver-stranded

I know Achmed thinks (((NATO's))) war against Russia is just a distraction, but I think it is a bit bigger than that. It seems to me that it part of a policy to implement the WEF's Great Reset. It is also an economic war on Germany and the European people.

Jake Tapper, announcing his refusal to debate or engage with Robert Kennedy Jr., after Tapper went on a mini-crusade to mock and defame RFK Jr (as "liar," con-man, "menace," and "conspiracy nut") over vaccine skepticism:

"Truly embarrassing. I’m not going to lend credence to a conspiracy theorist whose views are so false, unhinged, and dangerous to public health..."

(quoted by Brian Cates, linked by Adam Smith.)

Date of the Tapper righteously indignant attacks demanding vaccine-orthodoxy: December 2021.

This was still during the long psychic break-with-reality so many of the Good People were stuck in, and which I like to call the Corona-Panic. These people's minds were clouded and distorted for two years.

I still see occasional stories seeming to push Corona-panic (did you know the MOST DANGEROUS VARIANT YET is now out there??), but the energy is much less. The people like Jake Tapper have been talked off the ledge and are now indignant about other stuff. To date, CNN has not called for any Monkeypox Lockdowns.

PS

That poll (finding half of Republicans born after May 1992 were concerned with climate change and want to fight it, or however you interpret that) was re-released and ballyhooed over today specifically in the context the Joe Manchin news, this latest case of Joe Manchin giving the Biden people a political bruise.

The generational-attitude gap thing, it has all the hallmarks of something the younger people were raised with and the older people not, so it reflects that more than a true difference in attitudes, or thought-out positions.

It gets me wondering just how long Climate Change (or Global Warming, or, in its much-earlier iteration, the Ozone Layer Problem), specifically, has been a part of the cultural stew in which an American is raised.

Is this the answer:

- b.1960s people (and earlier) were not raised with it at all;

- b.1970s people, a mixed bag but in general began to be really transitioned into it. The ideology was emerging but not yet dominant in these people's formative years;

- b.1980s people were basically the first decade-cohort mostly being "raised" with it as a (near-)dominant ideology;

- By the time you have people born in the mid and late 1990s and into the 2000s, well, the world they grew up in Climate Change ideology had become hegemonic, a baseline part of Western culture and not just for activists. Cultural contact with the earlier period (pre-Global Warming concern) had been lost. Whereas a b.1975 or b.1980 American could definitely understand an anti-"Global Warming Ideology" position, and probably so could many b.1985 Americans, this faded fast as the b.1980s people passed through the system taking them from infanthood to young-adulthood; for the b.1990 cohort (maybe b.1995 at latest), it became no longer possible to understand an anti-"Global Warming Ideology" position.

Data-point: Greta Thunberg rolled into the world in January 2003. They claim she has autism, but I don't know that such a diagnosis is useful to explain her attitude. An exact clone of Greta Thunberg born not in 2003 but in 1983 or even 1993 would NOT (likely) have been such a moral-crusading fanatic on this particular issue in her teen-age years. But by the actual Greta Thunberg's time in the 2010s, it became LIKELY a figure like her would emerge in the West, as it was an important part of how they were all raised and there was no memory of the earlier period.

The way the whole Climate Change issue is treated, often histrionically by some people on both sides (for and against), sometimes it seems like it's something a few panicked activists suddenly discovered and sounded the alarm on only in the 2010s or so. Really it has a history of thirty years and more.

The "hole in the Ozone Layer" panic I think dates to the late 1980s.

There was a popular 1990s cartoon for kids called "Captain Planet." The titular character was an environmentalist superhero who recruiter a team of likeable sidekicks to fight evil polluters. Looking it up, I see "Captain Planet" began its TV run in September 1990. There were other things like this too, and K-12 schools all had much about it.

I think any American who passed through K-12 schools in the 1990s or 2000s was subject to this, and, having heard it throughout childhood, most accept it without thinking much about it. People usually don't have that much mental energy or will to fight or question everything.

(I would distinguish the scientific question of actual or hypothetical temperature-rises with Climate Change Ideology.)

There was a poll in the news today (but taken in early May 2022) claiming Republican-leaning Americans are split as follows:

"The government is doing too little to reduce the effects of climate change"

(% Saying YES)

Republican-leaners age 65+: 18%
Republican-leaners age 18-29: 47%

.

(For those keeping score at home, Joe Manchin turns 75 this summer.)

PS: It's pretty bad though, HRD, that we continually are depending on these very few slightly-more-sane people in power to stave off the destruction for a little while longer by a hair

Remember the "rules"* lady in the Senate or House that saved us from some nasty law being added to the budget based only on the rules, not policy? I wish I could remember the details, as VDare covered this well. We had to hope that this one lady enforcing the House/Senate rules to keep some big anti-White or pro-immigration-invasion law from getting passed. That's skating on thin ice.
