Supreme Court Justice

... as reckoned by a 10 year-old.

That is our vibrant Justice Sonia Sotomayor, one of the 9 supposed experts on the US Constitution we've got right now in Washington, FS.

The conversation with my son started with something from his school about this Hispanic Supreme Court Justice, who has diabetes. I looked it up just now, and she has had Type I diabetes since 7 y/o, so this is no diet problem, and I won't make any cracks. She got dealt a tough hand with that, but that's no reason I should be OK with "wise Latinas" who don't understand the US Constitution being up there.

I told him how the Supreme Court works - they vote, and they write their opinions, dissenting from or concurring with the majority, etc. I explained how there is nothing in the Constitution specifying 9 judges, but that's just how it's been for a long time (since 1869, it turns out).

"It's better if you have an odd number. With an even number there can be a tie."

"Then they could do rock, paper, scissors."

;-}

I'm pretty sure that would beat all hell out of the decisions of the Warren Supreme court.

PS Sotomayer is just another AA hire, just like the black lady who is sure to be soon confirmed. Frankly, I think the SCOTUS has been losing credibility for quite some time now. They're pretty much all political hacks, swayed by the company (ie fed) narrative. Unfortunately, their rulings are all but sacrosanct, and many if not most, to our detriment.

PS: I'll have to look that one up, Safenow. Thanks.

Mr. Hail, I was mistakenly referring to an earlier comment of yours. I read your latest one a while back.

PS Your 10-year-old is pretty clever because a federal judge actually deployed Rock Piper Scissors to resolve a court dispute. This was about 15 years ago; the boy wasn’t born yet, so it’s not like he remembered hearing about it.

PS: Mr. Hail, you anticipated my next post, which will be more like on why I think the Russia/Ukraine thing has no business being big news and why I don't feel a reason to write much about it. I did see your comment on your site and replied.

Dieter, thank you for the link. I've respected Glenn Greenwald since the Ed Snowden incident.

PS

The best piece I've seen about Ukraine so far: Glenn Greenwald's Ukraine video hour is well worth the time.

Most impressive, how he integrates Russia Gate and the Trump presidency into his analysis*****.

*****also very good indeed how Glenn Grenwald avoids being glued to the problems of the past and rather focusses on the way out. Pitch perfect pragmatism. All in all (one more) great example of American journalism.

PS

Am surprised Peak Stupidity has refrained, so far, from any direct comment on the Ukraine-Russia war.

One of the great points-of-interest to me is the moral-panic going on, reminiscent in many ways of the Corona-Panic's breakthrough stage two years ago. I don't think Western media and broad-elites dove into moral-panic frenzies over previous wars.

I write on this on my site, in search of the Corona-Panic vs. Ukraine-Panic Venn Diagram:

PS Time to bust out the Cohiba now that SCOTUS gets the Long March treatment.
It couldn't happen to a nicer bunch of black robed comrades of the unity collective.
The replacements are going to be upset when the magic soil doesn't sprout Wakanda but at least there will be some SCOTUS window dressing for them in muh democracy.

Thanks, Mr. Alarmist. I forgot about Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock. Loved BBT...

Scissors cuts Paper
Paper covers Rock
Rock crushes Lizard
Lizard poisons Spock
Spock smashes Scissors
Scissors decapitates Lizard
Lizard eats Paper
Paper disproves Spock
Spock vaporizes Rock
And as it always has, Rock crushes Scissors

PS: Haha, Alarmist. They are EDUCATING the Ukraine on how to do border patrolling.

(OK, I read enough about it all to know it's not directly the agent's faults. They are following orders from above. However, as my man John Cougar said , "but that don't make it right.")

Bill H, yeah prejudice, indeed. I think a computer program written by guys working for Ron Paul and Lew Rockwell could do a great job replacing the SCROTUS. The program might be raciss, but what are you going to do, shame a piece of software by calling it names - tried that with Windows... to no avail.

PS I want to put my fist through a wall every time I hear a Justice or some blithering idiot in Congress babbling about the importance of the "lived experience" of an appointed Justice. That is how they talk about the PREJUDICE that the new judge will bring to cases before the court without calling it PREJUDICE, which means "judging before the judcial process."

I prefer the BBT’s version: Rock-Paper-Scissors-Lizard-Spock.

Nice to know our BP guys get a chance to use their skills somewhere ... I take it they are waving Ukies into Poland.

PS: Paper wraps rock, right? But then you could still bash the scissors into pieces with the rock, especially Cheap China-made scissors, or better, yet, throw it at your opponent, maybe John Roberts or that lesbian SCROTUS member. That's not in the Constitution, so it's left for the people or the States per Amendment X. I'm up for it.

PS

Although I know for certain that the following would never happen, I'd somehow not be surprised to see it:

"The Supreme Court today, in 5-4 decision, issued an emergency injunction blocking Russia from moving farther into Ukrainian territory. Justice Sotomayor called the border of Ukraine 'sacred' and 'inviolable'..."
