The Emergency is over.

So, says D-squad Governor of Colorado Jared Polis. I don't agree that ANY of the ginned-up PanicFest from this latest virus out of the Orient constituted an emergency of any sort, much less an almost 2-years-long emergency. (Is there such a thing as a long-term, possibly life-long emergency?).

Per Fox News' Jessica Chasmar, as published on the The New York Post site, Colorado governor declares COVID-19 emergency 'over' despite Omicron. With her use of the scare single quotes*, it doesn't seem like this Jessica Chasmar is perfectly OK with this. "Despite Omicron", she worries in the headline. Yeah, well, there's a new strain of influenza out too, Jessica. How do I know that, you ask? They come out all the time. Yet, we'd be long out of Greek and Latin letters, and hell, probably Chinese characters too, if we kept "emergencies"** going on for influenza.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, declared in a new interview that the COVID-19 emergency is “over” and that he won’t be implementing another statewide mask mandate in response to the spread of the Omicron variant, explaining that if people aren’t vaccinated at this point, it’s their “own darn fault” if they get sick.
Indeed, it's not always the case, but people often get sick due to their own damn*** fault. Oh, and I suppose you could say, Governor, that if they keel over from blood clots after TAKING the vaccine, it's their own darn fault. I would hope you'd agree.

Governor Polis went on in this interview (audio on the NY Post page) about how easy it is to get jabbed. Yeah, you betcha' it is. It might be too easy, in fact, but I'll get back to that. The guy is enamored with these vaccines. OK, I've got no problem with his opinion, due to:
"And at this point, I think it’s almost like they made a deliberate decision not to get vaccinated,” he added. “I still encourage everybody who hasn’t been vaccinated to get protected. And for those who are, make sure to get that booster after six months. The data shows it’s important and very likely even more so with this Omicron variant.”
Right you are, Guvna! Yes, that's it! There's no "almost like" to it. It was a deliberate decision. Us anti-vaxxers, in Unzian terminology are not lazy about it. How perceptive of Governor Polis! We deliberately chose and still choose not to get vaccinated.
Polis said he supported local jurisdictions instituting their own mandates according to their individual needs, but that the state should stay out of it. [My bolding.]
Excellent! See, now, even though I imagine Jared Polis, being a lefty from the D-squad, is otherwise an idiot and terrible for the State of Colorado, I give him lots credit for the American attitude seen here. By "American", I mean Constitutional Republic understanding American, as were lots of us in the old days.

It's real simple, folks. If it doesn't affect you, mind your own business, and leave others the hell alone. It's one thing to try to affect change as a community, leaving others to voluntarily comply or not, but government should have no part in it. "Encouragement" of Coloradans to take that vaccine? Fine. However, as Governor Polis said, "the state should stay out of it".
"The emergency is over,” he said. “You know, public health [officials] don’t get to tell people what to wear; that’s just not their job. Public health [officials] would say to always wear a mask because it decreases flu and decreases [other airborne illnesses]. But that’s not something that you require; you don’t tell people what to wear. You don’t tell people to wear a jacket when they go out in winter and force them to [wear it]. If they get frostbite, it’s their own darn fault.
Darn straight is is! Though, actually, it's probably the lack of gloves or socks/shoes that would result in frostbite. Most people get it on their extremities, not on their torso. Hey, I don't expect this guy to understand the human circulatory system, when he can't even ... OK, I did not plan to bad-mouth the guy here.

There IS plenty to argue with this guy about regarding his opinion on the vaccine. We who see problems with it are "in a bubble", he says. There's more. However, I will not argue here but praise Colorado Governor Jared Polis for being an American here. And he's on the Blue-squad, no less. Thank you, Sir!

Would you find much of this talk by politicians in other countries, especially of the left? I mean, they could state this, but what do they have to back it up with? We've still got those little scraps of Amendment X that some of us have rescued from the shredder.

PS: Denver, Colorado is a long way from Margaritaville in the Florida Keys, but this "it's your own 'darn' fault" bit has put the song in my head. If you remember the lyrics, Jimmy Buffet, always a great lyricist, ended the choruses thusly, in order:

"It's nobody's fault.",
"Hell, it could be my fault.", and finally
"It's my own damn fault."

"Yes, and some people claim that there's a woman to blame...
but I know, (steel drums), it's all Fauci's fault."

There was to be no music today, but, well now, whatdya', you know? It's 5 O'Clock on some server somewhere.

Yeah, the song's been overplayed. There are plenty of good ones from the same album Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes.

* Just single-'s, at least, so there's that ...

** See, I'm using double-"'s because continuing PanicFest "emergencies" ARE worriesome.

*** Peak Stupidity bloggers are not in high government positions, so we can say "damn" instead of that darn "darn".

@Adam Smith. I don't know about 1933, however we are still in a State of Emergency over the 1979 Islamic Revolution in Iran.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Executive_Order_12170

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_emergencies_in_the_United_States

It happened 42 years ago. How much of an emergency can it be?

PS

I wouldn't give him too much credit. Polis is hardly an old-fashioned (pre 1980s) era Democrat. He's a homosexual who is fake-and-gay married to a dude with the requisite "look at how normal we are" adopted kids. He hasn't all of a sudden become a small-D democrat. He's just smart enough to realize that the (big-D) Democrats are shooting themselves in the foot with thier over-the-top pandemic response.

PS It does indeed appear as if this one is both more infectious and less lethal than the previous strains. It will be difficult for Those Who Rule Us to keep pushing their draconian restrictions and vaccination campaigns if many or most of the people who contract this strain don’t even know it. However, I’m sure that they’ll keeping pushing their authoritarian policies as long and hard as they can.

PS: Mr. Blanc, I did not mean to imply that this virus was the flu itself. By this part:

" Yeah, well, there's a new strain of influenza out too, Jessica. How do I know that, you ask? They come out all the time."

I meant to imply that this virus must be mutating into less virulent strains, such as the Omicron one, just as the flu does. It's the initial version (yeah, probably made in the lab) that WAS deadly to older people, people with certain conditions, and obviously the combination. We hear about new strains of the flu, and after the worst of this one, I don't see why we won't hear of (but shouldn't PANIC about!) new versions of this Coronavirus.

PS Technical quibble here: Corona virus infections are not the “flu”. The flu (influenza) is caused by the Influenza A, Influenza B, or Influenza C viruses. Corona viruses are from a different family. There are other respiratory tract viral infections, such as rhinovirus infections. The thing about Covid-19 (I don’t know whether this is the case with other Coronaviridae) is that it attacks not only the respiratory tract, but the cardiovascular system. I imagine this is why European footballers are collapsing on the pitch, right, left, and center, after being vaccinated. Perhaps this is due to the “gain of function” work that was perhaps done in Wuhan. I think that we hurt our cause when we speak flippantly about this epidemic. Our opponents just love science, and we should be as scientifically accurate as we can. This critter (if viruses can be called critters) can be very nasty, especially for the aged* and folks with a variety of medical conditions. We should recognize that. That recognition should not stop us from severely criticizing the complete cock-up that Those Who Rule Us have made in their responses to the epidemic, and resisting their policies when we feel such resistance is necessary. Or calling for drastic punishment for those who are responsible for the release of the beast, if, in fact, it is the product of a laboratory.

* As a 75-year old, I’m perhaps a bit more concerned about this bug than you younger guys are.

@MrHail said, “You know what would be funny? Is if by total coincidence it turns out Jared Polis has some big scandal in the closet.”

Cabal doesn’t let someone get to Governor of a US state without already having dirt on him, so the only way he doesn’t get tossed out is if this is Cabal’s trial balloon for climbing down from the ledge because they came across far more resistance than expected.

My wife is convinced the guillotines are going to roll out if Macron tries to take it as far as the Austrians are trying to take it. Things that make one go “Hmmm.” I’m not convinced Cabal are done trying to destroy us, however.

We live in interesting times indeed.

PS - Mod. - you ask:  "Would you find much of this talk by politicians in other countries, especially of the left?"
Sweden had it's no-lockdown installed by lefties. And Switzerland with the help of them. Martin Kulldorff, Jay Bhattacharia and Sunetra Gupta of the Great Barrington Declaration are liberals if not lefties altogether. Prominent German leftist politician Oskar Lafontaine and his posh wife Sahra Wagenknecht talk a lot like you do above: Let people alone who do no harm to others. Don't install a vaccine-mandate, don't vaccinate kids etc. etc. The completely leftist union VERDI in Germany is against vaccine mandates. Heck - the US-lefties were against Covid vaccines - as long as those were publicly accused of being nightmarish Trump-vaccines...

I would love to read a novel about the seventies in which David Bowie feversihly reads P. J. O'Rourke about the hippies' restricted linguistic code and their admiration of the dolphins' - supposedly genius-like linguistic abilities at the same time and then sits down and writes Heroes - and packs some of O'Rouke's dolphins in it to make fun of the hippies too! - - - Gilbert Shelton could (should!) function as the narrator of this chapter, hehe.

PS: Mr. Smith, I read a Ron Paul column once in which he listed out a bunch of these "emergencies" that were still going on. I recall there were 25 or so of them.

Mr. Hail, I will check that out soon. Thanks. This Polis guy is probably good for a lot of other destruction, so maybe they don't want him out. That was awful rash of him to say that the people should decide things for themselves though ...

Dieter, I'm not saying this guy is really anti-panic in any sense. It's just that he tempers his panic with the thought that, "well, if these people want to get sick and die, let 'em". I had no problem when Ron Unz put it this way, and I've got no problem with that part of what Governor Polis said.

(I suppose it is a little less panicky in nature. The true panickers think that the unmasked and unvaxxed are somehow going to kill them. This guy wants to let us get sick with no hassle at least.)

PS - So - now the anti-panic thinking has reached the blue states. - I think that's fine. A reason to rejoice.

(Good news are the lackmus test showing how far away panickers and anti-panickers are from neglect.)

Omicron is quite interesting. Omicron as the ominous. We'll see what the one (!) "omicron-death" in GB will do, that is big news already in Germany. - If I were on the pro panic side, I wouldn't look at this as a success.

"Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, a Democrat, declared in a new interview that the COVID-19 emergency is “over”...."

You know what would be funny? Is if by total coincidence it turns out Jared Polis has some big scandal in the closet.

Then a heroic whistleblower emerges....The long story short, a reliably Panic-loyal replacement governor steps in to save the day and Jared Polis gets demonized in the media for a supposed spike in Covid deaths (which on closer inspection aligns exactly with seasonal trend and other states, but that's in the fine print, and why do you wanna know anyway, you aren't one of those Covid-Denier Anti-Vaxxers, are you? Thought not. Move along.).

Would you be surprised?

They did a version of this in New York state. Details different, but they orchestrated a takedown for political reasons. And a Blue Corona-defector? Why not?

Replying to an orphaned comment from the linked-to thread 2128:

"Mr. Hail, I had no idea about how to get the data for that list [of top-viewed Unz Review articles by time period, which Mike Whitney's hardline anti-Vaccine-Mandate articles now dominate]. It's probably pretty easy and on the site in plain view. Could you give me some details on how you got it."

In a laptop or desktop browser, or with Desktop mode enabled on any device, go to Unz.com main page and ctrl-f for "Most" and you should find the list, adjustable by time period: One Day, One Week, One Month, or Six Months.

Mike Whitney's articles now dominate across the board.

PS: Good afternoon Mr. Moderator,

“Is there such a thing as a long-term, possibly life-long emergency?”
Emergency Banking Act of 1933? (Public law 73–1)

http://www.ncrepublic.org/images/lib/SenateReport93_549.pdf

SPECIAL COMMITTEE ON THE TERMINATION OF THE NATIONAL EMERGENCY
“Since March 9, 1933, the United States has been in a state of declared national emergency...”

“A majority of the people of the United States have lived all of their lives under emergency rule. For 40 years, freedoms and governmental procedures guaranteed by the Constitution have, in varying degrees, been abridged by laws brought into force by states of national emergency. The problem of how a constitutional democracy reacts to great crises, however, far antedates the Great Depression. As a philosophical issue, its origins reach back to the Greek city-states and the Roman Republic. And, in the United States, actions taken by the Government in times of great crises have (from, at least, the Civil War) in important ways, shaped the present phenomenon of a permanent state of national emergency.”

Even though the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act repealed the provisions of the Emergency Banking Act of 1933 that restricted affiliations between banks and securities firms (i.e. separated commercial banking from investment banking), I'm under the impression that the nation is still in a so called state of perpetual emergency related to the Banking Emergency of 1933. (Perhaps I'm mistaken?)
