Foo Fighters - Everlong

As not really the biggest fan of Grunge music at the time, I had not idea until now that the Foo Fighter's lead singer/drummer Dave Grohl had been Nirvana's drummer until Kurt Cobain killed himself in 1994. He formed his band after that, also in the Seattle, Washington area.

Everlong is the only song I can remember by this band, and it goes back almost a 1/4 century, to 1997, from their album The Colour and the Shape* One interesting thing is that, because Mr. Grohl had a thing for Louise Post of a band called Veruca Salt (no, never heard of them either), he not only wrote the song about her but wanted her on a little bit of backing vocals. She was in Chicago while his band was recording this in Hollywood, CA, so they got the audio over the land line. "Can you hear me now?" "No problem."

I'd almost completely forgotten about this once-favorite of mine. Since the song is from back when they still made very creative videos too, this is worth watching while listening to:

The Foo Fighters:

Dave Grohl – Vocals, rhythm guitar, drums
Pat Smear – Lead guitar
Nate Mendel – Bass guitar

Louise Post – Backing vocals on this song

* Why the British-style mis-spelling, I don't know.

PS: Thanks for the songs Mr. Moderator and Mr. Cloudbuster...

I had no idea that everlong was written about Louise Post or that she sang backup on this song. I've never seen any of these the videos before, which seems a little weird until I remember that I gave up on the TV by the late 90's. Here's another foo fighters video, this one's pretty silly.

I saw Veruca Salt in concert once upon a time, many years ago. I used to jam with a drummer who was a huge fan. I remember he had a crush on Nina. I haven't heard any of their new (newer than 1998ish) stuff but I downloaded some of it and I'll check it out. Here's a few more songs off the eight arms album...

PS: Thank you Cloudbuster. "So white women CAN jump", I thought, before I saw the bungees/ropes. I like the first one better, music-wise, but they are both good videos. I guess I was done with what a family member called "N-TV" by this time, so I'd never seen these.

PS Veruca Salt was a pretty fun band. They're a guilty pleasure of mine.

Seether and Volcano Girls are probably the closest things they had to hits. I like the video for Volcano Girls because while it's not ground-breaking filmmaking, the girls are clearly having a blast.

And I've always been fond of the video for All Hail Me because of the wailing vocals, the little kids rocking out and especially for the sake of the utterly psychotic-looking birthday boy:
