Auld Lang Syne - Bluegrass Version

I spent nearly an hour trying to find a version of Auld Lang Syne ("for old times' sake") I really liked. Yes, I searched for a Grateful Dead version too! Nah, they may have played it somewhere, but I couldn't find one However, I like this bluegrass rendition. They are a band called Off the Wagon.

I've never heard anyone go past the 2nd verse of this old Scottish folk song (written by poet Robert Byrne as partially taken from an older Scottish fold song, set to the tune sang now back in 1799).

Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should old acquaintance be forgot,
and auld lang syne?

CHORUS:
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And surely you'll buy your pint cup!
and surely I'll buy mine!
And we'll take a cup o' kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Chorus

We two have run about the hills,
and picked the daisies fine;
But we've wandered many a weary foot,
since auld lang syne.

Chorus

We two have paddled in the stream,
from morning sun till dine;
But seas between us broad have roared
since auld lang syne.

Chorus

And there's a hand my trusty friend!
And give me a hand o' thine!
And we'll take a right good-will draught,
for auld lang syne.

Well, it's been another year of stupidity for the new time's sake, and we'll raise a toast to auld pre-stupidity syne.

The light posting this week is due to both some traveling and a a bit of trouble your blogger has been involved in the past 2 months, but coming to a head. It's nothing really bad, and it's something I got myself into on purpose. I wish I could post about it.

Have a Happy '24, Peak Stupidity readers, if at all possible!

PS: Yes, you are in a great "bug in" spot, Mr. Smith. I envy that. We're still searching. We like where we live now, but it's not in an area that can hold out to anything when the SHTF. I just read a prepper lady's article on Lew Rockwell, hence the term "bug-in". Stand you ground is more like it.

Nice job finding the Auld Lang Syne Jerry solo. That video didn't say anything about Jerry because the title didn't say who it was. (I do see "Jerry band" in the description though.) "How Sweet it Is" was a popular James Taylor song. I didn't know Jerry sang this one. In this case, I'd say JT did it better musically, but, as you'd expect, Jerry's one is more danceable for Dead Heads, such as those twirling around in their Granny dresses and other apparel.

J1234, you got me to listen a little ways into that interview of Jared Lovell on the Chronicles show in addition to the quick string quartet rendition, but it got late. Thanks.

Mr. Hail, I had to check out what Mrs. Haley said per your remark. She's in hot water for not mentioning the Enslavement? I see it as an indirect but important factor. Anyway, she's the favorite Establishment GOP candidate, so she'll be OK.* No, that wasn't me though, haha!

Your observations of the Unz Review comments get to my New Years resolution. I guess I'll write a post on that. It ain't easy, man!

* If Trump picks her for VP candidate, I'm just staying out of it!

Were you the one who was serving as Nikki Haley's Civil-War-causes consultant? If so, I guess her campaign-managers have axed you (white meaning, not the Black-version of "Ask"), and then restricted your Internet-privileges until after the New Year holiday passed and your Civil-War-causes consultancy was contractually ended and they allowed you your liberty again.

I see that there have been zero comments from the widely-beloved and prolific Steve-Sailer-blog commenter Achmed E. Newman for a full seven days.

PS-

Happy New Year everyone! I really liked the Bluegrass Auld Lang Syne too. Thanks for that. My favorite version of late is the one I hear regularly as a brief intro on Chronicles Magazine's youtube channel. I'm not usually a string quartet person, but I think the staccato effect is cool. I'd love to find the recording for this so if anyone knows who it's by, let me know.

There are a few different guns I'd like, but I think, because of what you've mentioned that I should get an AR next, while I still can. I do however like these...

PS: Good evening, Mr. Alarmist,

Happy '24!

I live atop a mountain so I could be a rooftop Korean of sorts. AO = ~80 acres at home and ~200 acres at work. 600 yards is possible in some places, but I'd imagine that most shots would be under 100 yards due to trees, hills, mountains, hollers, and general topography getting in the way. It's likely that average shot distance would be between 30 & 70 yards max.

I think I'm in a good place if/when TSHTF. The county is 94+% White and 1.2% black. One third of the county (58,000 acres) is national forest. We are (unfortunately) a little close to Atlanta (~2 hours away), but most people are armed here and many/most are rednecks, hillbillies and hunters. Pretty sure most urban blacks still think of Dahlonega as a sundown town.

Cheers! ☮️

PS: Thanks for the comment, Robert. They had it pretty good then with those nice sizes. A few years ago I measured a glass of beer at one of these chain joints that has 100s of types of beer. It was close to 14 oz, not a pint. However, I think they'd been smart about it and took off the "pint" wording on the menu, which used to be there.

You can fool some of the people lots of the time, especially when they've been drinking a few "pints" already.

Thank you for the greeting, Mr. Blanc. I'll just settle for that last version.

PS: Too bad nobody found the Jerry's band track to put up. Almost every cover song they do (or he, Jerry, does) sounds better than the original, IMHO.

Yeah, I wish I'd stocked up on more .223 back 10 years ago, Adam. It's still reasonable to enable plenty of practice. It sounds like you are putting a lot of thought into the purchase. That price on your cheap one doesn't look bad at all to me. I'd thought there may be another run on these "assault weapons" due to new laws in various States coming into effect.

Happy ‘24, y’all.

Mr. Smith, how big is your AO? A long barrel AR15 with 5.56 can reach out and touch someone at at least 600 yards. Be a Rooftop Korean when TSHTF ;)

PS Happy New Year to all! May 2024 be less stupid than 2023. Or at least no more stupid. Not much more stupid anyway.

My light commenting this week is (mostly) because of laziness. And because I've spent a whole lot of time trying to decide which AR-15 I'd like to buy.

Do I get a cheap but reliable weapon from Palmetto State Armory?
(Seems like a very good option. Probably all I need.)

https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-16-m4-carbine-length-5-56-nato-1-7-nitride-lightweight-m-lok-classic-rifle-5165450254.html

Or do I get something with an upgraded trigger and a Cold Hammer Forged Barrel?

https://palmettostatearmory.com/psa-sabre-forged-14-5-5-56-fn-chf-cl-13-5-geissele-mk14-pin-weld-with-sabre-furniture-rifle.html

Or do I go for the gold and get a Daniel Defense DDM4?
https://danieldefense.com/ddm4-v7.html
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ft8o02iFrOU
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RZEH4paJ6fQ

Short Barrel, Long Barrel?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9q03ZkC4VUs

And while I'm almost certainly going to buy a 556/223 because the ammo is a little cheaper and more easily attainable the 300 blackout looks very nice...

So many options... And so many other rifles (and calibers) that I haven't even mentioned in this short list. (I'm open to suggestions.)

Anyway...

Happy New Year and Cheers to a Wonderful 2024! ☮️

PS: Good afternoon, Mr. Kief. No partying went on here, but just late start due to time zones.

BTW, for some reason, until I looked it up yesterday, I'd thought that song was German my whole life.

If the new year will solve your problem, does that mean it's a tax problem or something ... expiration of the Statute of Limitations for you.. I don't know - glad to hear it.
