It's not the first time, and this is not any factual error.

I just noticed that the video of the Feds cutting Texas-placed razor wire at the Rio Grande was shown in our Them US Blues (we always feature that Dead song) Independence Day post. That was 11 days before I embedded the video in the recent post Is this how it starts?, which had the wording
Two weeks back I read a VDare post by writer Federale* that was downright enraging. I didn't find the video then, so I didn't post about it. I found it now - ...
That was wrong. I'd given credit to Adam Smith for very helpfully putting finding this video on youtube, so that credit is again due. I also had already quoted that certain unz commenter on the feelings upon seeing that treasonous act by the BP on July 4th too.

What happened is that I found the video on youtube myself on Saturday, but I don't know why I'd already forgotten about getting into all this back on Independence Day. Sorry, Adam Smith and other readers (for the duplication).

PS: Greetings, Mr. Alarmist,

Many thanks! for the math lesson. Apparently you and I learned the same rules for this type of equation.

I asked my boss at work today, (he's kind of a math guy) and he quickly answered "1". Yesterday, I asked Mrs. Smith and she said "Oh, that's easy... That's 3... and 3 = 6". I luv luv đŸ„° luv my Baby's math skillz! (She has her own style math and it truly works for her.)

Mrs. Smith asked me today, "what's the right answer? and I answered "1". I don't care what google's calculator has to say about this...

(Google's calculator is wrong!)

Cheers to another great evening!

PS

You do the (inside) first ... then the 2(inside result), then 6/ ...

It’s a good question though... so-called “multiplication by juxtaposition” (the 2x there) is given precedence over the division.

PS: The videos on Peak Stupidity can't ALL be funny, Dieter. Believe you me, I'd love to show funny cat videos every post, but my conscience won't let me. It's not fair to the 1% of the sane cats out there...

Alarmist, INSIDE the (), no doubt. However, do you multiply the 2() first or do the 6Ă·2 operation first? My brother, who really should know, still doing math every week day and having taught, tells me left-to-right. As I said, there is no point in being ambiguous, as it's not like we're constrained on memory ... except our memory of previously written posts, haha.

PS

I dunno ... parenthetic subexpressions should always have precedence, so you should never arrive at 9.

Mr. Mod, if you had said nothing about the video, most of us would have given it little thought. Never apologize for anything that doesn’t hurt anybody.

PS
Mod. - if you say something like this Texas -öh: thing - I believe it. No need for a vid. As a rule of thumb, I skip them whenever they are not funny, hehe. In art exhibits, I tend to skip them as a basic rule.
Adam - I skipped your math question because this is not my cup of tea.

PS: Good afternoon, Achmed,

Apparently you and I learned similar style math as I too get 1. Without the ambiguity everyone would (presumably?) be on the same page. Some people seem rather insistent upon the correct answer being 9. How are we to agree on anything if we can't agree on the answer to a simple math problem?

Have you noticed this...

I would like to believe that things that are unsustainable will not continue. But... How long until we reach Peak Stupidity?

PS: OK, well my grade school didn't go all the way through 7th grade, so THAT was ambiguous. ;-}

PS: Yes, I'll claim tiredness. Thanks!

I get 1. but that's from an engineering background in which the 2() takes precedence over old grade-school division signs because we hadn't use them since 7th grade(?). I believe my brother was insistent - and he should know - that it's simply left-to-right ordering if it's ambiguous, so 3(3) = 9.

I say, don't be ambiguous. 6/(2(1+2)) is how I'd write this.* Parentheses are your friend, in this case.

The NEW new math would have me consider which ordering is less racist first and go from there.

* or (6/2)/(1+2), depending on what I actually mean - i.e., where the numbers originally came from.

PS: Greetings, Mr. Moderator,

Lol... I noticed at the time but just thought you were tired or something. Not to worry, we all forget things from time to time. 🙂

Quick question for everyone...
What's your answer to this question...

6Ă·2(1+2) = ?

Just trying to see which math each of us learned.
(The old math or the new math.)

Cheers!
