Pride goeth before the eject button

In yet another of Peak Stupidity's growing list of movie non-reviews* due to exasperation with the PC/Wokeness, I will admit in this post that they really got me.

I do realize there are other, more "high-tech", options these days for watching movies or old TV shows. I have my reasons for not signing up for Netflix, Hulu, What-have-you, though, the main one being that I don't WANT to end up spending so much time in front of the idiot plate, even without it being hooked up to the agitprop channels. (It hasn't been for 24 years now.)

So, while at the small branch of the library for books too, and occasionally, recommended videos that I've had held for me, I peruse whatever videos are there at the time and take quick looks at the blurbs on the back. I grab 2 to 4, because it's FREE!**, FREE!, I tells ya! Here's the blurb for a movie called Pride:

My boy even asked me later about that title, what with all the Pride Rainbow stuff that we are being subject to by the Potomac Regime. "Nah, see, it's some old movie set in England or Wales or something." I didn't know anything else about it. I just take a quick look at the things, as I've got nothing to lose, and I have back-ups.

"Are you sure about that? I think it's like all that 'Pride Month' stuff." "No, see, the word 'pride' meant other stuff back before all this crap. There's no reason that couldn't be the title of a good movie."

A week or two later, in goes the movie, into the player. Well, I sure didn't get very far. You know the system with the DVDs in which little bits of the movie are shown with a theme song in something like a 1 minute loop, as it waits for the viewer to press PLAY or some other options? Well, that's how far I got. I saw some scenes that told me, oh, yeah, this IS that new Pride shit.

Bastards! How'd I get fooled? Firstly, I saw "1984" in the blurb and thought that was the year the movie was made. Nope, it's SET in 1984. Then too, the pictures on the back of the DVD case did not scream "gay!, tranny!, genderbenders!, BLT-G++!

Not really, right? Or, am I out of it? Anyway, [EJECT!]

This was after already having ejected one for boredom, one recommended one that was not going to be good after all, and then an old movie - B&W, even - that looked like it was going to be a PC story. I popped in one more after all this that's kind of OK so far. I didn't have time to finish it after all that.

Serendipitously, as we visited the library again, I found Season 3 of the Rockford Files right where I left it and left off!***

* The representative post on this niche topic is Tried to watch a movie - here's 3 reviews in one!. There are a few others around.

** Sure it is, just like those FREE lunches - PS opinion on public library "improvements" can be seen here and here.

*** I only stopped watching a year or so back due to my thinking most of the discs were bad. It turned out to be our player.

PS: Good morning, everyone,

“Can you give us more information on that part of it, the joining/commenting, etc?”

Of course. Well, to comment, give a comment a thumbs up (like) or to subscribe to a channel one does have to be logged in. As far as creating the account I just opened a new gmail account. I didn’t have to give them anything other than my name (Adam Smith) a password and an alternate email address for backup. (I used a protonmail account.) I’m sure they asked for a telephone number but I didn’t give them one.

I did get locked out of my account for a week one time because they couldn’t verify that it was me or something. I tried to unlock it to no avail. Just had to wait a week for them to unlock it. Don’t know why it happened. Maybe they didn’t like me signing in through a VPN(?)

Happy Wednesday!

PS: That's too bad, SafeNow. In some ways, I wish the Nielsen ratings were not its old crude self in which one filled out a weekly diary. (Been there, done that, not so awfully long ago - 8 years maybe - and didn't have much to fill in, I tell ya!) If people did let them track their viewing - not at all my thing though - they could determine when people changed channels, turned off the whole thing etc, and ponder about the reasons in marketing meetings.

It's not that this would necessarily result in changes for the better, as I don't think making money is the biggest goal anymore.

Maybe some TV hookups DO do this already.

PS: Adam Smith, ahaaa, that explains a lot. I tried every which way to search for your channel and that specific Ken Cuccinelli/Bill Mitchell interview video. I knew I could click you the youtube link within the graphic of the embedded video, whether on Peak Stupidity or unz comments - where I put it a couple of times. I was doing the searching to see if anyone else could find it, or find you and your channel.

So it's published, unpublished, or private. Perhaps the "private" means only youtube "members" can view it, and only after you send them a link, or what, invite them somehow? From a friend who needed to put up videos for his business, I got the impression one must give out some identifying info. (or is it just a valid email address) to have an account, maybe even to just write comments or say "like" or whatever?

Can you give us more information on that part of it, the joining/commenting, etc?

PS
Last night on Turner Classic Movies, before Hitchcock’s “Rope” began, the host interviewed a critic. This gay critic proceeded to basically make the movie about the purported homosexual undertones between the two murder-protagoonists. It’s one thing for woke themes and casting to invade current movies. But even more outrageous is when they try to hijack a classic old movie and inject into it woke interpretations that, golly, stupid old me had never thought about, because they are not there or at most are slightly slightly slightly present. I turned it off and finished streaming from Amazon prime a British miniseries starring Stephen Graham. I learned that in northern England, ta-ra means goodbye. I can’t wait to try this out.

PS: Greetings, Achmed,

The Monty Python videos, & ELO - "Last Train to London" are not part of my "channel". They must be suggestions for you from youtube based upon your search/viewing history.

I have 46 videos posted, but most of them are posted as "unpublished". I do this mostly because I've had some videos posted that were "unpublished" and when I changed them to "published" youtube banned them and erased them. Seems you can post more "controversial*" stuff if it is "unpublished".

Published = anyone can view and it will turn up in a youtube search.
Unpublished = anyone can view it if they have the url. Not searchable.
Private = only me and people I choose can watch the video.
(Not really sure how this "private" works as I've never used this feature.)

* Controversial by youtube standards. Obviously my chimpout videos got banned and erased when I tried to publish them. One video that got erased was of a tanker truck blowing up from a static discharge. I don't know how or why they decided to erase it. It wasn't "controversial" in any conventional or woke sense, and it wasn't violent either.

Anyway. I posted a few videos as examples. (I didn't make these, just found them on twitter.) This first one is called Thermal Image Scope. It shows a rancher kill a coyote from about 1000 yards to protect his sheep. I don't know if youtube would flag it because of violence if I were to publish it, but I guess they might...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cspbrrQzXY

The next one is titled Little Birds Lost At Sea. I published this and youtube found that it is copyrighted, but they let me publish it anyway. I think they will let this one remain despite the copyright violation because there is nothing controversial or problematic (by youtube's standards) (Sorry about the stupid music, it's a better video without sound, probably should have edited it out)...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PoGBGxK60kg

In my videos folder I found one called Niggers&Tannerite. So I changed the title to Blacks!&Tannerite and posted it. They did not flag this one for violent content. If they did it would be age restricted and people would have to login to youtube to watch it. If I published it they might flag it.(?)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6hQ8U1Www8I

This last one is a video I posted a while back. It is titled January 6th Police Brutality. Youtube flagged it for an age restriction because of violence, even though it is unpublished. As you can see, to view it you would have to login to youtube/google...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U2iD5uF8fbw

I also posted it here so you can view it without logging in to youtube/google...

You can check out my published videos at these two links...

Incidentally, my most popular video has 1,904 views. It is titled Asufutimaehaehfutbw and it's only 8 seconds long...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LeAb8YZFgUI

I have a friend who posts videos to tiktok and he says the videos that get the most views are under 5 seconds long. I guess people just don't have the attention spans for longer videos.(?)

Have a great afternoon, Achmed!

PS

Thanks, Mr Smith. I keep a few liters of 100% isopropyl alcohol in a spray bottle to remove flux ... I probably would have reached for that first.

PS: BTW, I meant to ask you this, Adam. The Monty Python videos, ELO - "Last Train to London", etc, are they all part of your YT channel specifically? I wasn't sure. You've got 130 hits as of this morning on the Ken Cuccinelli interview - thank you so much for hosting that.

Anyway, that was good stuff on there, whether it is all your picks or YT's recommendations for me.

PS: Thanks for the advice, Mr. Smith. We are pretty good at our house (excepting the Missus) at taking things apart. We are not quite so proficient at putting them back together.

In my defense though, these aren't 1980's under-the-hood parts. Stuff is stuck together with double-sided tape and little plastic parts that only sometimes come apart the right way. However, the new laptop screen is working splendidly (that's the easy part) and hos not popped out yet.

PS: Good afternoon, Mr. Moderator, Mr. Alarmist,

“How does one disinfect their player after making that mistake?”

“One of those cleaning discs, maybe?”

Do 𝐍𝐎𝐓 use a DVD cleaning disc in an infected DVD player!!!

These cleaning discs are pretty good at removing dust from the lens, but not much else. When using a DVD cleaning disc in an infected DVD player you run the risk of infecting the brushes on the cleaning disc which could spread the infection to other DVD players. (It’s good policy to never share DVD cleaning discs with a DVD player that might be infected.)

First, unplug the DVD player and disassemble to gain access to lens. (You can probably find a manual for your DVD player online. You may also need some tiny screwdrivers.) Next, dissolve 300mg of doxycycline in 5ml of 91% alcohol. Then dip a cotton swab in the doxycycline/alcohol solution and gently clean the lens* and set in the sun to dry. (Sunshine and Vitamin D help treat the infection.) Apply doxy/alcohol solution twice daily for a week or until the infection clears.

* Be careful not to scratch the lens.

PS: One of those cleaning discs, maybe? Come to think of it, I should have given one of those a try with the old player. It just seemed like there were a number of things going wrong software-wise too, so we paid $70 for a replacement. (We got to take apart the old one to see how it works, at least.)
