In John Derbyshire's column today on unz.com, he introduced (to Peak Stupidity, anyway) the Chinese term "baizou". Derbyshire links to one Chenchen Zhang, who wrote a comprehensive definition in this article that would definitely include himself in that category. OK, that was all recursive and shit, huh? ;-} Keep in mind that is very hard to translate things word for word between most languages, and worse from Chinese-English, but the term has been applied to the cntrl-left, antifa, PC types of Americans.

It is not a term of endearment, I can tell you. We call these people the "cntrl-left" in general, here at the Peak Stupidity central offices, but Mr. Chenchen's article relates to us that baizou is more derisive than that:
Although the emphasis varies, baizuo is used generally to describe those who “only care about topics such as immigration, minorities, LGBT and the environment” and “have no sense of real problems in the real world”; they are hypocritical humanitarians who advocate for peace and equality only to “satisfy their own feeling of moral superiority”; they are “obsessed with political correctness” to the extent that they “tolerate backwards Islamic values for the sake of multiculturalism”; they believe in the welfare state that “benefits only the idle and the free riders”; they are the “ignorant and arrogant westerners” who “pity the rest of the world and think they are saviours”.

Apart from some anti-hegemonic sentiments, the connotations of ‘white left’ in the Chinese context clearly resemble terms such as ‘regressive liberals’ or ‘libtards’ in the United States. In a way the demonization of the ‘white left’ in Chinese social media may also reflect the resurgence of right-wing populism globally.
Libtard! You gotta love the Chinese for appreciating that term. It has not been used enough here at Peak Stupidity, mostly because we have some sentimental attachment to the term "liberal" in the classical sense, as it used to mean what "libertarian" does now. That notwithstanding, both Libtard and now, Baizuo are hereby approved as terms of art for all purposes at Peak Stupdity. Our lawyers will get going on the paperwork first thing on the morrow.

BTW, I hated to link to Zhang's article, as the rest of it does indeed prove that he is not only a baizuo himself, as noted above, but more of a cntrl-left, libtard, PC Chinamanasshole. But, thanks for the definition, dude.

Here's our point in even putting this post up: Websites need readers, and some of these readers could be from China. It's all about the eyeballs, as we in the BIZ always say at our all-hands, free-pizza meetings. We don't care if we get round eyeballs, slanted eyeballs, hairy eyeballs, or four-eyed eyeballs, just click dammit! Come on guys! It's so simple, do you need a refresher course? It's all Search Engine Optimization nowadays!

P.S. Per, commenter Daniel,Chieh, "In Chinese, baizuo heavily hints of “idiot”(白痴) so the humor is reinforced."

and, when asked for a translation for "useful idiot", writes:

"Most typically: zǒugǒu (走狗) or “lapdog” to express someone who is a foolish toady or collaborator, who is used and later discarded. Literal translation is: “walking dog”, presumably obediently to others."

Thanks, Dan.
